    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the summer internship - i met really great people in my team and the work was super interesting. It was challenging initially to get my head round all the concepts and there is still so much more that I can learn but that adds an interesting dynamic to the program as it has really stretched me

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone in my team made a real effort to include me on projects and explain what they were doing on a day to day basis as well as dedicating time to listening to me present work I had done - every Monday I presented to my team including the MDs on a market update

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had very good support from my manager and buddy - my manager and I had a weekly sit down to catch up on my ongoing progress and I was lucky to work on a few projects with him and I spent every evening with my buddy where I could discuss ongoing concerns

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Very busy - there was always a mix of long term projects and day to day pricing to be getting on with, I never once had to ask for work to do. At times I felt overwhelmed as there were a lot of things going on but my team were really supportive and helped me meet deadlines

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As time went on I had increasing responsibility as I was working closely with trading desks and attending a client meeting which was really exciting - as the work is so technical it too a while for me to be able to get involved in the team work and have responsibility to price things on my own

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned more in 8 weeks at Barclays than I have learned in a year at university, as I was in a rather technical team it took a while to get the hang of all the concepts and ideas around hedging but now I can say I have increased my knowledge hugely and hope this will help when I return to university

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team were really great and made for a lovely atmosphere in the office - we regularly had team drinks and had BBQs. I also played in a banking football tournament with my team which was really good fun and allowed me to extend my relationships with people across the office

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From my team I felt the internship was really well organized - they had a clear program of events and tasks which they were looking for me to complete and made this clear from the outset. I feel that HR could have organized more events which would have helped the social side with other interns

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They helped me learn lots about the team work

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love a job but unsure what the chances of this are depending on headcount

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We regularly had team drinks and had BBQs. I also played in a banking football tournament with my team which was really good fun and allowed me to extend my relationships with people across the office. I feel that HR could have organized more events which would have helped the social side with other interns as this was a shame I never met many other interns except the ones who sat near me

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good on Friday and thursday

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes - the football

    3/5
