The Role
I undertook this work placement as part of my year abroad during my degree. It was a great experience and gave me the opportunity to develop, and put into practice, a lot of the theoretical learnings and skills I was taught at university.
My colleagues were very helpful and supported me throughout the placement, giving me more and more responsibility.
My line manager was extremely welcoming and involved me in a number of negotiations and meetings to enable me to get a better understanding of the organisation. He was a great support in all day to day activities.
I provided support to the sales team as and when possible, getting involved in a variety of different tasks. On top of this I was also given my own projects to work on.
As my confidence and language ability improved I was given more and more responsibility. The projects I was asked to complete had a real impact on the business, helping to improve practices and service to customers.
The skills I developed during my placement are invaluable and will undoubtedly help me in my future career. The placement gave me a greater understanding of working for a large organisation and gave me a better idea of the kind of career I hoped to develop after graduating from university.
The Company
Although the office was fairly small, all employees were very friendly and supportive.
Despite a few teething problems at the beginning of my placement, my manager ensured my placement was well organised and that I was getting the necessary development.
My manager involved me in as much as he possibly could to aid my development and understanding of the company. I had monthly reviews to assess my involvement and ensure I was getting the most out of the placment.

I am now employed on the graduate development programme at SIG.
The Culture
None of my colleagues were of a similar age to me so opportunities to socialise were limited, though we all went for lunch together on a regular basis.
Both were expensive (especially accommodation) though this was to be expected when working and living in Paris.
Living in the capital city meant there was always something different to do in the evenings and at weekends.
My colleagues were all a lot older than me so activities outside of work were limited.
