The Role
Got to see how it is to work in industry. With daily stand ups, code reviews, pipelines, testing, deployment. Seeing all of this made me have a better experience and really see how the industry works in real life. Will prepare me for a real software engineering job later in life.
I was working mostly by myself and therefore I did not feel as valued by my colleagues. I was mostly isolated and independently working by myself to complete a task. This was due to being placed in a development team where the people I worked with were across the globe.
I had a bit of help from the colleagues in my team and when they did help me it was helpful. However most of the times I had to find a solution to problems on my own by googling the answer on the web. Stack overflow has been very helpful this internship.
At the start of the internship, it was very slow as my team had not decided exactly what task I was supposed to do. They told me to read up on things like React, Redux and other frameworks. This was a bit boring but helped later on. In week 3 I started coding for real and got busier.
I was responsible for the UI for an web app to be used my middle office. As I was very independent I had a big say in what direction the UI should look like. I had discussion with my tech lead in India to make a better decision but some of my ideas are implemented.
I have developed to be more independent and work by myself. I am able to self-manage myself a lot better than before and I think this will be very helpful in my studies in 4th year. I learnt how difficult it is to work with people who are across the globe and on a different time zone.
The Company
Good atmosphere in the office. Not too loud. People are very friendly and accepting here. All socials are always very fun. In Glasgow the office is very relaxed and does not seem to be all about the business for a fintech company. Coming in to the office doesn't stress me out.
I think it was organised very well. All events are always on the calendar and have a description of what will happen on them and where they will take place. All questions are answered by HR and never had a problem with the organisation. Its only that my teams organisation was less good.
I had to learnt a lot of things myself. Had to watch many pluralsight videos and read a lot of articles. I did like the fact that these resources were available as any employee can learn about a subject at anytime when they don't know how to use a framework.

They are appealing and I would like to continue working in JP Morgan however maybe not in the same team. I would like to experience working in other teams and learn more tech in other areas. I think there is a lot of space to grow while working here. A lot of opportunities to go abroad and work which I really like.
The Culture
The events were really fun when they were set up. Got to meet all other interns and became good friends with them. Had social events outside of working hours with the friends I made in the internship. The only other time to meet people is at lunch where I also was able to meet with other interns and have a good time.
In Glasgow the prices are not too bad. Sometimes I wish it would be cheaper to do things like bowling or other events but I feel like they are average to expensive prices. But alcohol here is relatively cheap so that is a good thing. Glasgow has a lot of places to offer as well. Might be expensive but a lot to choose from.
I never went out for nightlife events really
Yes, In Glasgow there are a lot of things to do outside of work. You can go bowling, running, to the gym, eat out and a lot of other more social activities. There are a lot of societies for specific interests as sports, music, dancing. I think there is a club/society for any interest. Will fit anyone.
