The Role
My team and the people I work with are fantastic, and the flexibility of the job is also extremely useful
They appreciated everything I did and were always willing to give me work when I asked for it.
The support and guidance you get is really what you make of it, it is unlikely your manager will be there for you 24/7 because they have their own job to get on with. But when you ask for their support they are there for you. However, saying that other colleagues were always happy to help. I think this really varies from job role to job role.
Working in finance is up and down, month, quarter and year end I would be extremely busy and expected to travel and work long days sometimes up to 12 hours. But then during the month there were times when I could literally be doing nothing... again this comes down to what you make of it and how you develop your job role/what your job role is.
They always trusted what I was doing and the work I was submitting was important to ensure the smooth running of the teams activities however work would not always come to me unless I asked for it and in some cases I thought they expected too little of me.
My job role is extremely unrelated to my degree.. however I have learnt time management, organisational and people skills which will prove invaluable in final year of uni and especially when it comes to looking for a grad job.
The Company
I got on extremely well with everyone and people are always up for a laugh. The open plan offices make this a really good working environment, and also the flexibility to work from home is great.
Monthly reviews with my foundation manager ensured I could identify areas to improve and develop, however there were times I felt the workload could of been greater and been expected more of within my job role.
I did a few training courses which helped my understanding of finance.. having previously had no financial background this was very useful. There are often lunch and learns and other educational calls set up. But apart from that I can't really say they 'invested' in me.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
It comes down to which job roles they have available, I would like to go back through the grad scheme but this may not be possible for a job which I am after. However they do fast track the placement students who perform well partly through the grad application process which is good.
The Culture
We had a massive facebook group with over 100 interns set up and they were always organising stuff! Working in london can make it difficult sometimes but if you live locally then this is perfect. The banter is great.
Working in london you have to expect to pay more than most places.. however saying that we were always able to take advantage of happy hour promotions and do deals with the bars across the river to where we work!!
It was hard to go out late at night due to travelling but the clubs and bars in london are fantastic.
They always encourage shadowing and giveback opportunities which are a great learning experience.
