Summer Intern Review

I really enjoyed this 10 week internship in the CADP programme - great opportunity to experience what it is like to work in the financial industry and to learn things that you would never learn otherwise. The work is sometimes stressful but you experience a very steep learning curve .

My team members and my manager were all very friendly and welcoming; we would work together, have regular catch ups and meetings, go out for team lunch / drinks as well as events. They gave me opportunities to help them with their work and all appreciated my work and effort.

My manager and I had weekly catch up sessions talking about my priorities and the work that I would be doing the following week. Regular feedback was given in terms of my strength and weaknesses, whether I am on track or not in terms of achieving specific goals that I set out at the beginning of the internship.

At the beginning, it was a lot of training and getting used to work; as it approached mid internship I had projects going on which increased my workload. By the time my project deadlines were coming up I was quite busy. When I am less busy in terms of the actual workload I would do training or networking, shadowing other interns, etc.

I was doing two projects for different very senior members of the firm and I was the only one in charge - I was happy with the amount of responsibility I had and was excited to conduct big projects like that. However I didnt have any direct interaction with the clients/business following the firm guidelines.

Not only I gained financial knowledge and hard skills, I developed a lot of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, etc. Excel improved a lot due to projects as well. It will definitely help me in my future career. Also developed researching skills which could help with my degree studying.

Nice and relaxed - people are very professional but very friendly at the same time. Nice office environment with big desks and high quality furnitures / computers. My floor past 6o clock would be quite empty - good work life balance as well. Not too stressful or competitive as a whole.

the campus recruitment did a good job organising multiple events / networking / socials / drop in sessions. The overall structure was also well organised. However one thing I would say is that they do start doing mid internship review very quickly. there were skills sessions as well as senior speaker series.

As my programme is not front office programme, we didnt have specific training at the beginning. However, on the job training was sufficient and they also conducted an excel training session and more general skills sessions for the entire internship cohort. I have received a lot of help from my specific team.

I received great feedback but I am yet to hear back about my full time offer. They communicate it to us on the last day of the internship - whether we are offered to come back next year as a full time analyst on the same programme (as a graduate for two years)

My cohort in the same programme had drinks / going out events every week; there were also joint socials with other programme interns. If you are outgoing and love socialising, there will be these events and you can organise it yourself as london is a great city for night life / socialising

London is very expensive - rent / going out / lunch all cost a lot of money. You do get the relocation bonus at the start to help you with your rent but compared to other areas it is still expensive. especially central london where the office is at !

London is great for night life - interns would frequently go out. if you are outgoing then you can take these opportunities but if you dont like going out that is also completely fine - no one forces you to go out. After all everyone is tired and busy with work

There are business resource groups within the firm that hosts panels and talks, as well as events like quizzes. You can also join sports clubs if you want. There are also language classes that are for analysts. Teams would also get involved in volunteering etc. Multiple opportunities for interns to enjoy.
