The Role
I enjoyed my placement very much. This is partly due to my colleagues i was working with as they were a good laugh and welcomed me in very quickly. The job was more enjoyable when there was lots to do. I found that when i engaged myself i enjoyed it a lot more than if i distanced myself from the responsibility.
At the start i felt a like a bit of a burden as i was new to site and had a lot to learn. However i was given a lot to do and so by the end of the placement i was more confident and able to help my colleagues out more.
I wasn't given too much support from my manager and wished i had asked more questions. I felt i didn't know who to ask when i did have a question.
At the start of my placement i was very busy, but towards the end the job was finishing so there was much less to do. On the worst days i would do one or two things and then be waiting around for the rest of the day. This didn't happen often though.
At first i was given very little responsibility which i had expected. I was shadowing the engineers straight away and so learnt a lot very quickly. I didn't receive my CSCS card for a few weeks and so held me back as i always had to be with someone on site. However after i got my card i was able to go out on site alone and at the end of my placement i was setting out on my own.
I feel University doesn't prepare you for working on site, so this experience is very valuable and will hopefully allow me to secure future opportunities. Whilst working for Sisk i have become much more confident in myself and my abilities and also in my ability to use the setting out equipment.
The Company
I was working with a great group of people that made getting up to go to work much easier. Everyone got on well and there was little friction when working.
Before the placement i was a bit in the dark about what i would need to supply and small bits. However i found out where i would be a long time in advance which allowed me to secure accommodation relatively easily. Once i was on the job it ran a lot more smoothly as i had access to more information.
I wasn't put on any training courses as i was only there for a short time. However i did see people go off on first aid courses and other courses.

Having already worked with them i am very likely to apply again. Sisk are a great company to work for as they care about their people and it shows with all the support they give. As i am already set up with them, it would be much easier to start the next placement as i now have a good understanding of how the company works.
The Culture
We tried to organise a few 5 aside football games but it was difficult getting the numbers after a long day of work. We also went for drinks a couple of times.
Manchester is a relatively cheap city.
Manchester has a brilliant nightlife. It was hard to go out as by the weekend i was very tired and so didnt want to go out. It was also hard as i didn't know many people in Manchester at the start, and the people i worked with were a bit older and didnt live as local.
I had plenty of time in the evenings and was able to go to the gym quite a bit as well as joining a rugby club.
