The Role
The office environment was great, however, there were a lot of interdependencies which slowed down my progress.
Colleagues were friendly and easy to talk to. Responding to my emails took a significantly longer time though.
This was due to unexpected life events that happened to my manager. When they were present I received great support.
It varied but on average there were more days where I did not have that many things to do. This was due to the fact that I needed answers from my colleagues and usually I had to wait several days for that.
I was given a lot of freedom to work on my projects. I had to opportunity to explore several possible solutions and after that receive feedback from my manager.
Besides improving my networking skills I don't feel I have improved any of my other soft skills. The knowledge I gained as a result of my placement will be really useful throughout my degree.
The Company
The atmosphere is great, people are relaxed and easy to approach.
I had to wait a week to get my work laptop and I felt that my placement manager was not informed fully about my program. I also felt that the person overseeing the full program was not prepared adequately and had a lack of experience.
I had a one week induction week where I took several courses on company values, mental health, etc.
I am not convinced that this segment of the company matches my career goals.
The Culture
I made great friendships with the other power academy students at National Grid.
Accommodation was slightly higher but still manageable. Other prices were pretty normal.
Being a student town, I couldn't really go out to a night club since no one was there.
I could find a sports club and a good gym.
