Summer Intern Review

I very much enjoyed my placement at LCP. LCP is a very welcoming place to work with many social opportunities with the team and across the whole company. It was well paid and for 9 weeks we really did get a lot of good experience and developed many transferrable skills.

Very valued. We were given high level work (though not too hard) to do right from the start and our colleagues took lots of time delegating to us and giving feedback on every piece of work. They all treated us with the utmost respect and gave us challenging work to push us.

Given guidance whenever we asked for it from any level. We were all assigned buddies for extra support who were great. Every piece of work was delegated in detail and they took a step back to allow us to try complete the work on our own when they felt we had enough experience.

It depended on each day and how many of your team were on summer holiday etc. But we were given a presentation to do as well when work was light. There was 1 intern per team so you would have work coming in from about 5 different people each day.

We were given a fair amount of responsibility in terms of the calculations we were doing. LCP have a do check review process so your mistakes will always be caught. In terms of client interaction, however this rarely happened and there was no responsibility there but that is something that is a characteristic of actuary as a career.

The excel and other computer skills I learnt will help me greatly. In addition I learned professionalism which is always going to be transferable. 9 weeks may seem like a long internship but I was constantly developing skills up until the end and LCP really did care about my development.

There was a lovely atmosphere in the office. Everyone who works there is kind and welcoming and happy to take their time explaining things to you. The office has great facilities with a kitchen, showers and bike sheds. There was also a monthly departmental breakfast which was a great opportunity to socialise.

I received my offer the day after my interview. This was promptly followed by contracts and welcome packs explaining everything I needed to know. Buddies also contacted us beforehand and we were able to ask them any questions we had about the internship which was very helpful! The training was also well organised.

We received 3 days of training covering everything you needed to know. The on the job training was more valuable but there is only so much you can learn in a seminar type training so it was good to have a mix of both. Everyone on the team up to partners were happy for us to as them questions.

They are very appealing. This is clearly a good firm to work at if you value continuity and work life balance. Also in the field of actuary they seem to give those sitting exams generous time off for study days and general . annual leave is more than generous. Also the social life is great

Yes there were a number of drinks to get to know people. Nothing was particularly organised by the company as just interns we did that ourselves however we managed to all go out for dinner or drinks after work at least once a week which was great to have a group of people our age at the firm. The summer party and team socials were also really great.

I mean it was London so of course was quite expensive. However in general team socials etc. were organised at cheaper locations and in the first week there were many company funded drinks due to people receiving exam results or qualifying as actuaries. The LCP summer party was also completely free.

I didn't actually go out when I was at the internship but I have been told it was very good!

Yes LCP has many initiatives which people can get involved in be that charity or LGBT. They also have many sports teams with regular matches such as Cricket Football Touch Rugby and Netball. We were all invited to join these teams during our time there which many of the interns did.
