Intern Review

I enjoyed my internship a lot. I especially liked the office environment and the people I was working with, and I found it rewarding how I was given real client work to do that was of value to my team.

When I did work, I felt very valued. However I have not given this question a very high score because I felt that sometimes I was underutilised by my team and they could have got more value out of me.

I had a mid internship review with a team leader, otherwise there was little structured support/guidance. However, because the division is so small and welcoming I felt that anything more formal was not actually needed.

I had a lovely time on busy days, however I did find fairly regularly that I was having to fill my time with reading old reports/regulation which was not particularly interesting.

Especially towards the end of the internship, I felt that I was given a good amount of responsibility. I think I managed to get properly stuck in and do a lot of essential client work by the end. It is understandable that at the start I was given little responsibility, since I was new and my knowledge was fairly limited.

I have finished my degree so some of this question is not applicable. However, I do think that the skills I have learned in terms of confidence in the workplace will help me in future, and I have learned so much about general insurance and actuarial practice that it will definitely help me a lot if I decide to pursue this career path.

My team were all fairly young and friendly, which meant that the atmosphere was much more fun than I was expecting it to be. I was working during the busy period, so some days were more serious, but that is to be expected.

There was not a huge amount of organisation; I was simply introduced to the team and then came into the office and was given work as and when it was needed. However, due to the size of the team and the fact that there were only two interns in the division, this method of managing the internship worked perfectly.

The company invested a decent amount of time to training me in the first few days, and then in the subsequent weeks members of my team were always more than happy to spend time teaching me on the job.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time and I am hoping to get a job offer from them when I finish. From speaking to my colleagues, I think that my chances are reasonably good. I can see how much my colleagues like working here, which makes me excited to potentially start a career here.

There was a good social scene within my team, with various after work activities organised. However, there were only two interns in my division and whilst we did get to meet the interns in the other divisions within the company, no social events were organised with them and as a result we did not socialise with them much. I would have liked some intern-specific events to be organised.

The office is in London, so of course living and socialising prices are very high. However, this did not stop me from socialising.

I was commuting from home and so did not get to experience very much of the nightlife, but I got the impression that it was very good and I still did a lot of things in early evenings.

I did not get involved in many, but if I had wanted there were various social events and sports teams which were advertised via yammer
