The Role
I enjoyed the work I was given and it never really felt like a chore. There were lots of development opportunities and other fun activities to get involved with aside from day-to-day work.
I felt very comfortable in my team who were all very friendly and thankful for the work I did.
My manager helped me with daily tasks as well as my placement project. He was always willing to help me whenever I had a question with my work. He and other managers were also more than willing to give me general career/business advice to support my development on the placement as well as after it.
I was busy most of the time with an appropriate amount of work which would fluctuate - sometimes I'd be very busy and sometimes I'd have an hour here or there were I didn't have as much to do. On average I was well occupied for most of the day.
I was given a good amount of responsibility but maybe could have taken on a bit more in places.
Over the placement I developed massively my excel/modelling skills as well as my understanding of finance (had none before). The technical skills and business understanding I think are transferrable to a wide range of areas I might decide to pursue in the future.
The Company
Good hardworking atmosphere but with a good balance of fun. Probably more 'serious' atmosphere compared to other Centrica office but generally still enjoyable.
Very well organised - I had constant contact with Centrica from the application stage right up until my last day. Structure of the internship was very well organised and clear. Allowed a lot of personal development and learning.
Invested time in development days, excel and presentation day. I felt like Centrica invested a good amount of time and money into us.
Subsidised/Company Gym
I'd like to work for Centrica in the future, and the graduate program has a good number coming from the summer placement scheme.
The Culture
Good social scene in general, although a lot of people went home at the weekends which made the weekends more quiet than expected.
Average cost of living including costs of pubs/local supermarkets etc.
Windsor has limited nightlife, a few good bars and clubs but you'll have to travel into London or Reading for a better nightlife.
Lots of opportunities including development days, out of work socials, charity fundraising events etc..
