The Role
I enjoyed the internship a lot. I felt like I was in the right place and that I learnt an enormous amount in such a small period of time. It was great to discover the world of finance coming from a STEM degree and gave me a broad insight on the job.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I worked in two teams and both teams made me feel comfortable and welcome. It was easy to approach colleagues and ask questions and get feedback. When I did something that helped the team I was always thanked and told of the value add.
Both my managers gave me sufficient support. In each rotation I had a weekly meeting to go over set objectives, performance and future achievements. On a daily basis it was easy to get feedback and ask for guidance with tasks or my projects. I also could count on the help of other members of the team.
During both rotations my days were very busy and I had no time to get bored. Between the BAU tasks on each desk, getting to learn how to use software, understand the requirements of the desk or working on my project and meeting people I kept busy and it helped.
I was given a lot of responsibility - especially when sending things out to a wider distribution that includes senior management, participating in global meetings, my project was to produce something much needed for my team and will have a lot of value add. I think overall I felt very much part of the team for that.
I have developed a lot my presentation skills. In terms of talking clearly, slowly, and louder and in terms of how to deliver material to an audience. How to target the audience (know them and adapt my language) as well as how to set myself deadlines and meet them to be up to date for my project.
The Company
The atmosphere is hardworking yet cheerful and welcoming. There is a real sense of community and appreciation and I always felt welcome, trusted and helpful. It was great to be able to talk to pretty much anyone and they would be happy to share what they do and go through it with me.
The internship was very well organised. The first week, training, was extremely helpful and gave me solid grounds on which to develop knowledge gained during the 10 weeks. I also very much enjoyed rotating between 2 teams to get a view of different desks and different atmospheres in the teams.
The company invested a lot in us. We were given a week of training prior to starting the 10 week internship. The training was intense and very helpful. We were then given further Excel and Bloomber training sessions. We were offered seminars on presentation skills and how to build our personal brand.

I would very much like to join the company for a full time position. I have felt like both the day to day work, products, and analysis are very interesting and that the skills I have developed in my degree are extremely useful. I also very much enjoyed both teams I interned with and can see myself joining either for a full time position.
The Culture
There is a good social scene amongst the interns. I saw that in my division we helped each other a lot and got along very well. We organised social events outside of work, played football together, and attended each other's project presentations with a lot of delight and encouragement.
The cost of living was high compared to the university I go to however the salary was competitive, enabling me to afford living within a reasonable distance from the office and having a rather short commute. Socialising was easy in the area I lived in and I was blessed with wonderful housemates.
I have not been able to take full advantage of the nightlife around the area I worked in. I have however attended parties organised by my company and joined my team in playing football weekly which was always followed by a social. I would say it was overall very enjoyable
There were opportunities with my second team to join their weekly football game. Over summer they take part in a tournament against other teams of the firm and it was nice to keep the team spirit they have in the office and bring it to the pitch. I felt very welcome and useful.
