    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship very much. I was provided with a number of opportunities and different working environments within the Ownership team. My year within Porsche taught me a lot about the automotive industry, particularly Porsche Classic and how a large organisation works. Previously I had never worked within a large business so this was very useful.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The Ownership team were very welcoming and useful both day-to-day and if I ever had any problems. When at work, particularly at events, the team gave me a lot of responsibility which aided my development and confidence. I felt like there was a mutual respect between all team members which created a good office environment.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Both my manager and supervisor(s) were excellent, if I encountered any problems or issues I could easily approach any of them for help or guidance. I was never spoon fed which was very useful in the long run as I would become more independent throughout the year and less reliant on other people telling me what to do.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During event season I was extremely busy, especially on the weeks running up to an event. Work quietened down towards the end of my internship around summer time but throughout my year when not at events I was given different projects to dip in and out of and also to take control of.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt as if I was given a lot of responsibility by my team. I was given the task of running quite a large project myself. My manager would ask me to make decisions instead of always asking him, this felt like my input was valued and the team were helping me to improve my business and marketing skills.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Before starting my internship there were areas within the job role that I had never studied at university such as event work and different aspects of marketing. Developing these skills throughout the course of my year in industry has been priceless as I would not have done this at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was very good during the day. The only downside was that with interns not being allowed to use the flexible working hours policy, the office would usually become very quiet and dead during the last 1-2 hours of the day.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well set up I feel, when first joining the company everything was ready for us and the two week handover from the previous intern was helpful in getting us going and up to date with current projects and activities. We had numerous different welcome days and meetings when starting which were both interesting as well as fun.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company have helped a lot to aid my personal training and development during my internship. There have been numerous courses that I have had the chance to go on such as how to improve your driving skills, a CV workshop, a technical workshop that taught us all about the cars. Other than this, my team have helped me develop, letting me take control of projects and make decisions on certain activities.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is no graduate scheme within Porsche Cars Great Britain. In the past there have been previous interns that have returned to the company after finishing university but this seems to be quite a rare occasion. The future employment prospects are not as good as other companies but I think the internship makes up for this.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there were a number of different interns situated at the head office, all doing placement years from university, this meant there was a good social scene between us all. As well as this, the company organised activities such as 7 a side football games, an evening out at the cricket at Lords and a Christmas party.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Renting a room in Reading was expensive compared to most university house prices, but there was a range for everyone to be able to work with. Socialising costs seemed fairly normal, especially for being as close to London as Reading is. The internship wage was very fair to be able to pay rent as well as socialise most weekends.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Reading is quite varied but it can get very boring very quickly. There are a lot of good bars and restaurants in the Oracle in the town centre but for a proper night out it can be a bit tedious.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Other than someone organising a football match or going to the cricket etc. there were not many opportunities to join any sports or societies clubs within the business. outside of the business, there are many opportunities within reading and the surrounding areas to suit all needs.
