    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Everyone has been very welcoming and lovely and I have really enjoyed the work I have done. I have become good friends with all the interns and had some great opportunities for networking and work shadowing across the firm. I feel happy and comfortable here now and would recommend it to anyone as it's a great hands on work life experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel very valued by my colleagues, I don't feel like they treated me as an intern they looked after me when I first joined and then always looked out for me throughout the internship. I feel I actually helped them and made their work lives easier rather than being a burden.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt well supported by my colleagues and my line manager was lovely but I don't feel like she gave me lots of knowledge on how well I was doing or if I was actually helping until near the end of the internship. I did feel well looked after though, especially when I needed help on something everyone was willing.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of the time I had the perfect amount of work to do, however, there were times when I was very bored because I had nothing to do - this was when everyone was on holiday in August mostly. Apart from that I didn't feel stressed or overwhelmed but still had deadlines to hit so it felt like I was achieving something.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It was difficult in my team because there were already many projects going on and so I couldn't just be given one thing to do by myself and I didn't attend high level meetings for each of the value streams. I did do some stuff that went to the Director but a lot of it was low level stuff.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel like I've learned so much over the last 10 weeks: how to conduct myself in the workplace, how to organise and run meetings, how to organise and prioritise my time effectively. It has been invaluable. I think it has taught me self-discipline and that will help me in my degree.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It could be quiet at times but I think that was more because it was holiday season, but everyone is friendly and lovely and it was a relaxed atmosphere while also allowing you to get your work done in peace. The canteen was very lively and good to chat to friends.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The general framework was quite organised, however, a lot of the time our line managers weren't really told what was happening by HR. Also there was a mid internship review that my line manager and I tried to change and they didn't ever respond to it. A lot was left up to the discretion of the line manager which was fine but HR could have been better.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I got lunch and learns every week which was an opportunity to learn about the firm and gain personal development skills. I got online training as well. I did feel I had to do a lot of the searching for people to help me develop myself, however, this may be a good thing as it means I'm being proactive and finding people who might help me in my area.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Working from home

    Travel loan

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing, I would love to come back here for a Graduate scheme and carry on my time here, I'm quite sad to be leaving. I definitely want to continue improving my skills plus I have spoken to a lot of graduates and they have told me how great the grad scheme is.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes it was great, we got to know each other in our inductions well in the first week and everyone was very nice. We have a group chat and went out and socialised at least once a week. We also ate lunch together every day which was really fun for me.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As it was in London the price of drinks and food can be expensive, however, Stratford prices are actually okay. I didn't have to pay for accommodation, however, I know people that do and those prices were very very expensive as they're again London prices. Cost of travel was okay.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good although could be expensive and so I didn't go out on it much. Also it was very fancy what you had to wear and so after work we didn't have time to go and get changed and ready to go out. As I lived at home I struggled because I wouldn't be able to get home after a night out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not really, nothing that the FCA specifically organised apart from drinks and nibbles at the end of our internship. There were community away days which I did which were interesting and rewarding however. I would've liked to do more of these away days and got out and about but there wasn't another chance
