The Role
I very much enjoyed the placement. I found the work engaging, the atmosphere friendly and helpful and I felt like I have learnt a lot from it too. I was often busy but at no point did I feel overwhelmed and there was a good support structure to aid with this.
Colleagues were always quick to praise any work I did and ensure I knew the impact and benefit of what I was doing making me feel very valued and appreciated. We had a good team atmosphere making me feel relaxed and comfortable and able to get on with work and focus.
Manager was on hand to offer support whenever I needed it and I never felt isolated. Given the nature of the team however there was a lot of remote working going on so at times I would be in the office by myself. I could still get in contact with the team but not as easy as face to face.
I was given a big project that filled most of my time whilst supplementing with learning exercises and other initiatives I was able to get involved with. This allowed me to balance my time well to keep myself busy but not rushed or too busy which was a good balance.
I was given a big project and allowed to run with it. Before starting I had a meeting with my manager where we agreed upon the direction I would take and generally what the outcomes would be, but how I achieved these were solely up to me and my responsibility.
Analysing big data sets and coding were the main skills I gained from doing this placement which will help immensely further in my degree. It was also good to help broaden my overall skill set to open up different future employment opportunities in different sectors to my prior experience in the workplace.
The Company
Not great at all. The office I was based in was a call centre with teams dotted around the outside of a big open room. This contributed to a very loud atmosphere that made working difficult. There were also no social events going on at the site or anything to get involved with.
The placement was very well organised in general. There were a few mishaps as to be expected but on the whole it was ran well and there was a definite structure to it that had been thought about to get the best out of our time here and put in action.
There was a lot of interest development but in reality it was a touch tricky to put into practice. I was lacking resources to actually learn my coding that I needed but went off by myself to find free online courses that allowed me to learn the very basics at least.

Working from home
The organisation is a fantastic place to work in terms of the work they give, the support you get and generally the other people in your team and that you work with are really nice and helpful. sadly the company is going through uncertain times, making it difficult to see a proper future.
The Culture
Other interns were good fun.
Depends where you went, there were cheap places then if you wanted to go upmarket it was more expensive.
Really good, options for everyone.
very few.
