About You
I really enjoyed my time here and I learned a lot. I took part in new activities and learned to use some machinery which will really help in my future career. The people were also really nice and made me feel very welcome which made the placement that much more enjoyable.
I felt very valued during my placement the staff were always grateful for the work placement students took part in and always thanked us at the end of the day.
I received anought guidance and supporter. They always made sure we were confident with what we was doing and didn’t make you feel intimidated to ask more than once if you were confused or unsure about what you was doing. They were also never too sheltering so once you was confident to use/do things they let you go off on your own or complete tasks without guidance.
The skills I have both gained and developed will indefinitely assist me in the future with helping complete my degree and during my career forever. I have learned a lot of new things I can take further and things the degree could not have taught me.
The Company
The placement was quite structured, there were daily and weekly activities to complete that we were all aware of so we knew what needed to be done. We were also told the rough structure of the week when we came in on Mondays which were good.
Everyone I came into contact with was lovely, from the public to other volunteers, placement students and staff.
They trained me sufficiently for everything I needed to do. For mechanical machines we were given presentations and told all the health and safety risks for all activities and in some cases given demonstrations.
It was a big insight and having been here for 3 week I was able to take part in nearly all activities with the staff. It allowed me to understand the type of activities that need to be done as a ranger and now I have finished I feel like I know what to expect from a ranger job.
It help me understand the staff and public interactions and the friendly environment. It also helped to understand the need for a good relationship with the public and informing the public about the grounds and what species are on it and the value of public donations and help thought volunteering.
It did really help me to understand work life as a ranger. Whilst I have not decided my specific niche and will have to undergo other placements and more learning till I’ve found what I want, I understand what is needed in this line of work and have throughly enjoyed this placement.
Everything Else
I got a great selection of biscuits, hot beverages and squash to reimburse any costs spent.
There was a few networking opportunities where we had people come in to teach us about dragonflies and insects.
I took part in two social events, I feel there is a good amount of opportunity to network with staff and people who have come in to specifically teach us or the public about species or other things.
Yes, all the staff were lovely to recommend activities you could get involved in outside of the placement. You could always ask as well about things they would personally recommend and it was really good to hear about their experiences with companies and their professional opinions on other activities. They were also helpful in recommending things catered to yourselves to help you get the most out of any other activities.
Yes, it is definitely one placement that I would recommend as it gives a real insight into life as a ranger. It will help someone to understand if they want to pursue in this field or do something different within the field.
