The Role
A very useful and valuable internship for my personal development
Everyone had time to talk to you and most wouldn't turn you down if you asked for a meeting.
My team was quite stretched so was often unable to quickly help me with queries on my project, which is understandable. However, I always felt comfortable asking them for help.
The projects I was given did not take up a huge amount of time, although it is recommended to ask for additional work. I did not ask for much additional work as I preferred to talk to people, set up meetings and learn more that way.
I was given projects that I was primarily responsible for. It was difficult for my team to give me much responsibility due to the technical nature of the work.
I have learnt so much about the Banking industry and what I want to do with my life which I wouldn't have been able to do without this internship.
The Company
Quite relaxed but focussed; people tended to work hard while at the office but not have to stay late.
It was evident that HR had put a lot of effort into filling our calendars with events and the timeline was always clear.
Lots of learning sessions, although these were not always useful for me. My training was pretty much done on the job by asking people in my team. Meeting people individually for conversations or discussions was much more worthwhile.
Company Parties/Events
Personally still unsure what I want to do, but the welcoming culture means I can see myself working here in the future.
The Culture
For me, the finance interns became much closer towards the end of the internship and were a pleasant bunch to be with. I hope to stay in contact with them.
London is inevitably expensive but the salary was competitive for my age bracket.
London has everything you'd like and during the internship I always had the evening free to do what I wanted.
Lots of events to get involved in. Charity beach volleyball tournament, crazy golf, bowling, general networking events. Good ways to get to know people so that you can make your own plans next time.
