The Role
Loved it! It was insight full and kept me engaged in what I was doing. There was a broad range of banking activities I could engaged in.
I was given a really warm welcome from my branch team, also the regional head office team was really easy to come and talk to with question about their roles and experiences
Me and my branch manager sat down and looked at the recommended training plan for the internship then amended that towards something that would suit my interests within banking more
Always finished the day feeling like I have done a meaning full and complete days work. There will always be tasks you see no value from until later date. I was never made to work fast or was put under pressure to complete work quickly
Not quite running the show but I was able to work independently on a number of cases in various parts of the banks roles, analysis of management accounts, involvement in annual reviews and joining account managers on customer reviews
I feel like the soft skills I've developed are going to be crucial in my future employment. Furthermore the technical skills applied and developed through the type of work I was doing have made me a more diligent and prudent person which will definitely effect my university work beneficially
The Company
The atmosphere was always relaxed, in the sense that you would always be able to go and talk to any member of staff if you had a questions relating to the work yo were doing. Everyone treated me seriously and understood that I will be asking a lot of questions at the start
Very well organised, few issues at the very beginning with setting up my IT permissions to be able to login to all of the systems relevant to the work I was doing. There was plenty of opportunities to contact HR about visits to the regional office and experience parts of the bank outside my branch
I would say that the time invested by other employees of the bank has been of the greatest value to me, they were able to take time out of their day to talk to the interns bout their roles and how they support the branches with the work they do for the customer. Online training programs were also provided
Very appealing, I feel that my values are quite closely matched with the values of the bank. I enjoy working in the Branch that I have spent my internship with and have been able to extend my time within the bank working part time around my studies with the potential for post grad work
The Culture
There were quite a few good social scenes especially after meetings and events at the Regional Head Office. We would always go out after the day to one of the local pubs/bars and have a chat about how things are going and what are plans are post internship. Everyone was able to enjoy them selves
The branch that I worked at is 10 minutes away from my house so I know the local area really well and living at home most costs were not exactly taxing on my budget. Socialising in the local area is really easy and enjoyable with parks, pubs and local restaurants. Including Championship side football
Again since this is the city I have grown up in I know the nightlife in the local area and city are very well, Nottingham is a great place for young given the two large universities in the area. There is a wide variety of bars and clubs you can visit
Yeah, I actually took up rugby with one of the local teams which the branch happens to be a sponsor of as well. There are a lot of different sporting activities in the local areas from tennis to cricket and football. There are quite a local gyms and health clubs as well.
