The Role
I enjoyed it a lot. It was in the field of work that I'd like to be working in after my degree so it was extremely beneficial to my career.
Our office and team were quite small, so the sense of community was massive, and I always felt included and valued by the people I worked with.
My manager always had time for me whenever I needed it, and was always encouraging of me to ask any question no matter how big or small.
Varied by day, our team had a large variety of tasks to complete that were divided up during the daily stand up and I was always given a fair amount of these tasks to do. If the work ever became overwhelming, I knew I could ask for help to share the load. (However, the work never became overwhelming) I was never in the office later than my expected 9-5 and I never had any homework, but likewise I was never sitting idle or bored.
I never felt so much pressure that I felt genuinely anxious that I would be in trouble for messing things up, however on multiple occasions I had tasks that I knew were genuinely important and that I later saw referenced and utilised by wider teams, so I knew that the work I did mattered not just to my team but to the group.
As a computer science student, the opportunity to work with professional data scientists and to do actual practical data science tasks is absolutely invaluable.
The Company
Whilst we always got our work done there was never a negative atmosphere in the office and it appeared that everyone had a positive rapport with one another
The team I was placed in was quite small and highly specialised and the time I was with them was particularly intense, so to take an intern in at a time like that was a risk on their part I feel which I am very grateful for
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Would love to join the group if a similar job to this one was available.
The Culture
People were often rude and quite cliquey
Very expensive however I appreciate that the group did pay for my accomodation
In theory nightlife in London is pretty good but I didn't take advantage of it much outside of a few gigs
