The Role
A very relaxed campus experience and the people are extremely warm and welcoming. As an intern there was a lot of work to be done and feedback was highly constructive, if not a little strong/harsh at times. The investment into new talent is very impressive and there were a few lavish events held for us. The only downside is you are expected to learn a lot and network extensively in just 10 weeks.
Team members made me feel personally very welcomed and valued. However, professionally many did not actively engage in my projects and were surprised at what I had achieved when I presented my work as my internship ended. My manager, however, made me feel extremely valued as he ensured I understood our role within the company and my role within the team and how my work contributed to helping our team members.
My manager takes an interest in developing students and graduates, so he was well aware of the support necessary for an intern to succeed. I was given very positive feedback which was gratifying, however there were times when I received less positive but constructive feedback that really helped me to grow in my role.
I was extremely busy during my time at this company. I had additional tasks assigned by my manager to complete halfway through my scheme, and then other team leads lent on me to help with repetitive tasks they would otherwise have to do. As an intern it is hard to "just say no" to things. These additional tasks took up a lot of time, especially when we are also encouraged to network which takes a significant amount of time. However, I do not mind being busy as it can make the working day go a lot quicker.
I was given a great number of projects that all had elements of risk and controls to be aware of. I would not have handled more responsibility than I was given too well, as I feel as interns for just 10 weeks there is not a lot of reasoning to give interns large amounts of responsibility, only for this to be taken back after the internship ends.
My excel skills have greatly improved, as a result of my internship. Alongside this, my data presentation has gotten a lot stronger, which will be extremely useful in my dissertation I complete in the coming year. I am now very aware of the software development and trade life cycle which will assist my future career in financial serviced or even in a Business Analyst role. Presentation skills have also developed, alongside business email and phone call demeanour.
The Company
The atmosphere at my campus was extremely warm and well-meaning. Not only is the office space extremely modern and aesthetically pleasing, the grounds are beautiful and really make you feel like you work in a special place. There are some teams that you can walk past who look and sound extremely stressed, but luckily I have not encountered these people. The rest of the people are very nice, and are always happy to help you out or have a catch up.
The internship was extremely well organised. You could easily tell the programme has been running well for years as every thing went as smoothly as clockwork. The events held were highly enjoyable and you could tell guest speakers, including the CEO, were happy to be there. There seemed to be a large budget for this year's intern scheme.
My team mates, my manager and HR have put so much time into training me up, alongside weekly feedback meetings to enhance personal development. During one of the first weeks there an intern excel training course was held which was the only real "tangible" training received. There were a number of open mentoring circles provided by full time employees to help develop softer skills.

I am very pleased with an offer to work with the company full time following my graduation.
The Culture
Yes, every intern was highly sociable and there were always plans being made to meet up after work or at the weekend for those who had no family or friends in the local area. My team did not have a summer event but I know the majority of other teams did, and that attendance was always extremely high.
Bournemouth is more affordably priced than London, for example, however as I have lived here my whole life I have seen house prices begin to rise steadily so this concerns me for when I return to live after my graduation. Socialising can be very affordable however, and there are enough activities available that you could easily socialise for free.
There were not many clubs in the town compared to the city in which I go to university, however I only went out a few times and had an enjoyable time with what is available. Be sure to rest as well as make the most of your new night life options.
Yes, there were a number of after work clubs as well a lot of summer of sports events.
