The Role
Had a great internship. Was included into the team and made to feel as if the work I was doing was of help and assistance. Everybody on my floor was very friendly and the work that I did complete was of relevance to my degree discipline-thereby being of use for my future as well.
I felt very valued by my colleagues for the whole internship. I was included in meetings and discussions, and was constantly being kept busy and active. Very friendly and honest colleagues that took time out of their days to help me and make sure that I felt at ease. Calming atmosphere and I knew that I could also go to someone and ask them for help if I had any queries.
The support and guidance given by my supervisors was fantastic and I could not have asked for anything more. From before the start of the internship I was given information and work that would help me understand the workings of the bank and allow me to make the most of the experience.
I always had work to do or research that I could get on with during my internship. At times my work load was a bit less than usual, but this can be expected during an internship in a legal department whereby I can only be of a limited assistance. Regardless, I always had something to occupy myself with.
The work that I was given during my internship tended to be research that would go towards work used by mentors. Moreover, I was given responsibility in order to make an intranet page and HIVE page, and thus was the administrator of such pages and responsible for them and any changes that had to be made to them.
The skills I developed during the internship were of great assistance and value to me. I have learnt the importance of time management and responsibility, and also dealing with pressure and tight work schedules. Moreover, I have learnt the value of working efficiently under tight time conditions, and not procrastinating.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very calm and relaxing. Everybody was very friendly and I felt as though I could speak to everybody if I had any queries or needed help. Moreover, everybody was willing to take time out of their day to be of assistance and help me if I needed anything.
The internship was set up very well whereby most of the time I was kept busy or had something to do that was relevant to my degree discipline or work. However, for the future I would recommend that more activities and events were organised between floors, as at times the workload was of a minimum and it would have been nice to see the work done in other floors and network with other individuals.
Lloyds Banking Group did invest a great deal in me. From a number of inductions whereby I could meet a number of people and complete a range of activities, I felt as though the Group was making an active effort to make the most of my internship. Moreover, the fact that I was assigned a line manager that I could go to for any queries or extra work, was of the greatest value.
Future employment prospects seem to be very appealing and the application process for a grad scheme seem to be clear and well-defined. However, as this is not a route that I am currently considering, I have not given future employment with Lloyds Banking Group much thought.
The Culture
There was a great social scene amongst fellow colleagues- I don't think I have any recommendations for improvement. There were an array of networking events and even on a day to day basis, it was clear that the social scene was great whereby people would go or lunch together and take a break.
Understandably the centre of London is very expensive, however the fact that accommodation was provided for interns for the duration of the internship was of substantial help. Moreover, the café in the work building was subsidised and provided a cheaper alternative to eating in the restaurants nearby.
Great nightlife and a wide array of bars, cafes and restaurants to enjoy the nightline and scenery around St Pauls.
Many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, such as volunteering, exercise and socialising.
