The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time completing a summer placement at Siemens Mobility, working as a Project Engineer Intern within the New Technology Team. The people are very friendly and helpful when you have many questions. I received a sufficient amount of training and help from the team I was in to have a good time completing this internship.
The people are very friendly and helpful when you have many questions. I received a sufficient amount of training and help from the team I was in to have a good time completing this internship. My colleagues provided me with a lot of work even though there was a dull period during projects. I learnt a lot and feel very valued by my colleagues.
I received a lot of support and guidance from my manager, team members and other colleagues. Everyone is very helpful and approachable, making it easy to ask questions on things I didn't understand, and providing a concise explanation for them. If those questions came unanswered, they did their best to direct me to the relevant people who could answer them. Overall, everyone is nice.
I was unlucky to join at a time where the company was in between projects. This meant I was assigned to 3 different projects but all at different stages. However, I was provided with a sufficient amount of work from each project, which when combined, meant I was fairly busy on a daily basis.
With the limited time period of a summer placement, I had to fit in training and work into a short 12 week period. I received a good amount of responsibility for the time I was there. If I was there for a year placement, I would expect to receive a greater amount of responsibility.
I learnt how to work in an industry which I had no knowledge about. This meant I had to quickly learn about the industry in a short period of time. Although training was limited, I learnt a lot about Siemens products and the work that is required to deliver projects.
The Company
This varied depending on what office I was in. The Croydon office has a nice atmosphere although everyone kept to themselves majority of the time. However, there was no hesitation to ask around for help as everyone is very open and friendly. It was similar in other Siemens offices but I had a good time with the team I was in.
I received a very warm welcome into the company and the work placement was well organised. I received a proper introduction to my team, manager and the company structure whilst also getting a health and safety induction and office tour. I felt very welcomed into the team. This is dependent on the team your in.
I was lucky enough to be exposed to different departments within the company and to explore the different equipment rooms at London Bridge and West Hampstead. This is something I probably wouldn't of experienced anywhere else. From what other interns have said, all you have to do is ask and you shall receive.

Working from home
Very appealing and the company benefits cannot be matched by any other company. The employment prospects are very promising with a rewarding progression for those who work hard and benefit the company. It is also very easy to change departments and explore which position best suits your work ethic and skills.
The Culture
This is dependent on the team your in but there is a good social scene amongst the team I was in. We would go out for drinks on a weekly basis and had a good working atmosphere, striking a balance between work and having fun in the office. Overall was very good.
I was based in London so the cost of living there is more than normal. However, I lived just outside London and drove into work everyday. Siemens have the option to claim expenses so if I were to travel to the HQ travel is covered, which is more the ideal.
I have never experienced the nightlife in any of the places that I worked in. I am unaware of any nightclubs in Croydon but know the ones in Central London are good, but expensive. There is a lack of nightlife near the HQ but not far from Bath and Bristol.
I was lucky enough to explore different parts of the company and to be able to experience different activities. The Siemens Graduate team organised a two day gathering for all the summer interns, treating us to a meal and some ice-breaker activities. This overall was a very very positive experience.
