    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was enjoyable because the team was great and the work was not too intense for a summer placement.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were great, everyone really nice and honest. Not too many team activities, but atmosphere was really nice.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Managers were great, although it is a company where people travel a lot so a lot of times managers were away / on site. Skype for Business is useful for this issue though.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I would have liked to be more busy, and I felt like the work I was doing was not very valuable.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Not much, I mostly did research projects (not sure how usefu; they were).

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I did not get any training. I think it was interesting to experience a corporate environment, but it was comfortable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There are People chatting, hot desks, no issues to raise here. On Fridays generally no one is in. There is free tea and coffee. In the office it is a general office atmosphere I would say. In addition though, the salad at the canteen is amazing and super cheap, less than 3 pounds.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was organised really well, there are always friendly people to message about any queries and interns get their own work laptop/phone/etc. It was flexible too, so I had the possibility to arrive a week later since my exams finished late. I also could do my initial interview over Skype.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I did not have any proper training but it was not really a problem since I was only doing research projects really. When I first arrived, my manager sat me down and asked me what I wanted to get out of the placement as to not waste my own time.

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are definitely a lot of loads of job opportunities! For a year in industry or grad jobs, there are so many travelling opportunities ! My friend in my department was sent to Basel within her first two weeks here, which is super exciting. She will come back in 6 months.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone was quite nice, and we had a WhatsApp group chat. Anyone could suggest lunch outing to restaurants like Pizza Express or another evening event such as to get a drink or go to the pub, which happened almost daily. No one had any problems between us, so it was great.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is Expensive, as it is in the city; the office is found right next to the Moorgate station, which is on the Northern and Circle and Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City lines. However, it depends where you are put because if you work on site you can get sent far away (paid for).

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I am not very interested in nightlife so I am not really the best person to ask for this question. I went out once and it was okay, went to Fabric. However, it depends where you are put because if you work on site you can get sent far away (paid for).

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are not many opportunities that I have seen, or perhaps they are not well advertised. Personally I have been invited to some events organised by the team I was working with. There seems to be some events, such as comedy nights to raise money for charity. I am not sure however
