The Role
Expedia has a great culture of learning and professional flexibility: I was able to network with a variety of teams across my brand and my projects were technically challenging. Everyone was patient and directly offered help in the form of training or putting me in contact with the correct people. There were also a good selection of social inclusion events and networking opportunities.
Everyone was really friendly and willing to help you without being directed to do so. I felt as part of the team from the onset as the internship was really well planned with social events within my team, and with the rest of the interns through the Early Talent Team.
My manager was sat next to me and we would have weekly catch-ups throughout my internship. These focused not only on project work but also my professional development and personal well-being. He also recommended classes that I could take and made sure I was getting the most out of my internship throughout the summer by talking to other teams so that I could get different function insights.
My project work was challenging in the sense that i had to learn quite a lot of technical skills in a small amount of time, and hence the learning aspect of it was very busy on a daily basis. The project execution aspect took a lot less time in this sense, but my manager continually tried to find more work to keep me busy.
I was responsible for developing tools that the team would use internally but also with other functions. These tools were used on a regular basis so from this point, there was a lot of responsibility on my part. I was always allowed to work with a high level of autonomy in execution, planning and timing my projects as well.
The training was great throughout my internship. I walked in with no technical knowledge and was trained up from scratch using Tableau, intermediate to advanced Excel, SQL, VBA, Eloqua and attended some classes in data science as well. Apart from technical skills, I was also in insights training, ally training, improv training which bettered my soft skills professionally as well. Expedia has a great culture of learning and throughout my internship I was given the opportunity to attended many classes across the company.
The Company
I worked at Vrbo within Expedia Group and the office atmosphere was very relaxed and very start-up like, but with the resources of a multi-national. It was great because everyone was always willing to help but also make conversation that was more than the occasional 'hello'. Overall it was a very supportive atmosphere too with everyone genuinely caring about your overall wellbeing.
Very well organised. I was given interesting projects that I could get started on straight away by my brand, and the Early Talent Team set up internship-specific events throughout the summer from the onset as well. It flowed very well and there were no hiccups in the events preset by either of the teams.
The company invested a lot of time in developing me personally and technically. I was allowed to go to al training sessions and insights, whether they were data science class or Ally training and there were plenty of opportunities to ask questions to talent panels, junior and senior throughout my internship. I was also invited to many paid social events and free lunches by my internal team and the Early talent Team

It differs across Expedia Group, but my manager at Vrbo was impressed with me throughout the summer and said that when the head count is decided for the oncoming year he would be very happy to catch up with me, but no formal offer was offered immediately after my internship.
The Culture
Great social scene, I became friends with all the interns very early on and there were many social events by the Early Talent Team throughout the summer in many different places in London. This is including skye garden, Shuffle, and a variety of different bars as well. Everyone got on really well and we developed a good community. London is pricey though
High because it was central London. A typical lunch could cost you £8 around the Victoria area, so I suggest bring food in as much as possible. Rent was high even though i was in Zone 4, and travel card was expensive as well, groceries were typical across the UK
Nightlife was really good, there are a variety of different clubs, bars, restaurants in London whether it be underground bars. hidden bars, penthouse bars, or EDM clubs and Pop Clubs. London is also home to some amazing restaurants in unique settings such as a 1920s themed restaurant and bar in Soho.
There were many inclusion groups, such as the LGBT societies that we were all made known of throughout our internships.
