The Role
The job was truly great. The company culture is amazing at Expedia Group, with an emphasis on work/life balance. Everyone was very welcoming and the work I was doing was very interesting and insightful.
Within my team, everyone was very inclusive and the work I was doing felt valued. However on the bigger scale within the company, I had some employees not taking the urgency of my emails quite a few times until my manager stepped in.
It didn't feel daunting at all to ask for any kind of help. Everyone was always encouraging me to ask them questions.
It really depends on the day. At the beginning of a piece of work, there might be a lot of waiting around to pull the data in. Once I had the data, I'd usually be quite busy analyzing it, but it wasn't the kind of busy that was tiring, you just wouldn't see time passing. There were some times between two projects when I didn't have much to do, because I didn't have the data for the next project for example. At some point I had to ask my manager for more work because I had finished a previous project earlier than she anticipated.
The projects I was working one were quite important and they resulted in business changes.
I learned very valuable technical skills during this internship, but also important business skills that seem obvious such as replying to emails, setting up meetings, dealing with delay, making professional powerpoints etc. I had no prior professional experience so this was a great opportunity to learn these things.
The Company
The atmosphere is amazing. We have coffee machines, milk, crockery etc available to us in kitchens in each areas. There are always free drinks events and free food somewhere. We get fruits delivered each week too. Within my team, everyone looked very relaxed and at ease, sharing jokes occasionally. Some people would bring treats to share, write cards and give gifts to people leaving. Overall everyone is genuinely nice and there was no toxic competition or culture at all.
It was quite organised in the sense that they always set up events and talks for interns so that we could socialize etc. I was lucky to have a manager who is very organised and so my OKRs were set quite early on. However I felt like the HR side could have been handle better, as we had a few problems with not having our passes made, not having lockers etc.
Because the company promotes autonomy, I had to do most of the technical training myself through datacamp etc. We had a few training sessions organised by the recruitment team too

Very appealing. I'm seriously considering to apply for a full-time job here after I graduate because I love the work environment here.
The Culture
Very good. We'd have lunch together everyday, go to events together, meet during the weekend etc. Everyone is genuinely very nice and I am glad I met them through this internship.
It's London, what do you expect? On a more serious note, because every event was provided for my the company, official socialising events were basically free for us.
We would occasionally go the one of the many pubs nearby.
There are quite a few tournaments and events that happen outside of the office, as well as some charity projects.
