The Role
I enjoyed meeting new people in my team and other teams, as well as meeting other interns and grads. However, I did not enjoy the work as the majority of the time there wasn't much for me to do. The location (based at Gaydon) is lovely, looks very nice and is easy to get to by driving or via the coaches supplied by JLR. The food in the canteen is also very nice, however, it is quite expensive.
My colleagues would always make themselves free whenever I needed to talk to them, and they ensured they approached me as well to see how I was getting on. Some colleagues I have not spoken to, mainly because I sit in a different area and our work did not cross over.
My manager and mentor always were available for me to chat to whenever I needed help with something or was struggling to understand something. My mentor tried to keep me as busy as possible, however, it is difficult for them as they have so much of their own work to do.
A lot of the time I did not have much work to do, which left me clock watching for most of my time. However, when I did have work it was of the right balance. I was not overloaded by it, but was still under a degree of time pressure to complete by the required deadline.
When given work the responsibility was high as the projects I was working on were going into the real cars which would affect their performance and driveability. However, as mentioned before, I did not have that much work to complete hence the low rating.
Although I learned a lot about JLR, how the company operates, and technical information and details about my job and how what I worked on works; it doesn't really help me in my degree neither would it help in a future job outside of JLR
The Company
The general atmosphere was positive and relaxed. People were friendly and there was no pressure to continuously work all the time. You are free to wonder around and talk to people if they're not too busy. People usually love talking about their work so this gives a small insight into what others do in the office.
Initially is stared off very slow because we did not receive company laptops until 2 weeks into the placement; this means that we could not start any work due to all working needing to be private and confidential. Furthermore, my main project was changed/tweaked a few times due to not being able to receive certain things in time.
The company invited us to numerous training days at the beginning of the internship to ensure that we were thoroughly trained in the areas that we were working in. There were also further opportunities for further independent training using the online resources which are at everyone's disposal.

Although I enjoyed working with the people and working in a nice location, I did not enjoy my work within this team hence I would not work here in the future in this team. I would welcome the opportunity to work elsewhere in the company however to see what it is like.
The Culture
Most of the 3 month interns stayed at Coventry Uni student halls. So most of the time you can meet with them and go out. However, there is not much to do in Coventry so a lot of the time we had to travel to Leamington Spa. Graduates also tried to include us in different events that they run, e.g. different sports events to get people together and have some fun.
The cost of halls were slightly subsidised, and the local pubs were relatively cheap. Transport links in Cov aren't that great in my opinion so itd be great to have a car to get around easily, or car share with someone.
Nothing really to do in Cov, so had to go to Leamington Spa or Birmingham for anything interesting. No one really lived close to work as there isn't really anything there.
there were opportunities run by interns, as well as many chance to get involved with grads. Grads were always organising weekly events to try and make sure everyone integrated with each other. This included weekly sports events, go karting etc
