    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I did enjoy my time at Jaguar Land Rover overall. My team were particularly fantastic throughout my time here, teaching me the ropes and giving me advice. Work varied from really interesting to not-so interesting. I did feel like I contributed to the company however and that my work was valued.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the first day, I was made to feel welcomed and at home. They all were approachable and always happy to answer any questions that I had. It was really interesting to learn about their own career paths as well. It was a lively and amusing environment to be in!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given as much support by my supervisors as I asked for which really worked for me. I'm a haptic learner, so I was given time to explore the actual vehicles I would be working on! Any questions I had, were all answered and explained well. I was never made to feel like any of my questions were stupid.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I managed to finish my project quite early which meant that I started off with the perfect amount of busy but ended with not much given to me to do. This is where it is so important to ask around for something as work will most likely be pouring out of your managers ears that you can help with. Some of the work may not be the most stimulating but its definitely better than just sitting around!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had the perfect level of responsibility which was, I was given the work with a brief explanation and then left to my own devices until completion. One of my projects has now been uploaded to the JLR official server and will be required by PAT Leaders to follow in all models!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • JLR have a really good learning scheme which is open to undergrads. On a day to day basis however, I did not really use anything I learnt from my degree other than a few key principles. I learnt more about report writing and how to navigate the workplace. I've definitely come out of this internship now with a lot more discipline and a wider understanding of the industry.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was a Body Undergraduate which was a really great scheme to be on. They had lots of drop in sessions and workshops going, as well as interesting tours to go on. There was a graduate Q&A session which was helpful too. You also had the opportunity to shadow other departments.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They have a really great sounding grad scheme, with great pay and lost of learning opportunities. They even sponsor your chartership which is such a great bonus! JLR also have a great privilege scheme which can bag you your own jaguar or Land Rover! The people there are also really friendly, making a great atmosphere

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This year, there was a really good social scene among the undergrads. Football and pub night was a weekly thing, which was good since work finished so early! All the undergrads were really friendly and inclusive. At night, we would go to local clubs as well as the next town over.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife isn't the best in Coventry or surrounding areas. There is a club called Kasbah which is good but that's about it. If you want more, you would have to go further afield, including places like Leamington Spa and even Birmingham. This was a trek however and not really done.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is this thing called gradnet (for undrgrads, grads and apprentices despite the name) which organised lots of events out side of work. This go from working on cars to playing tag rugby or cricket in Leamington Spa. Some car projects let you explore parts of the business that were not included in your area.
