The Role
I loved my time at Goldman Sachs. The people in GSAM invested much time in my growth and development and I have come out confident that this is what I want to do.
I felt highly valued by my colleagues on a day-to-day basis. I could see the added value of my work and beyond this, we became friends as you spend so long with each other every day!
I had two buddies, two managers and a mentor throughout my internship so I felt highly supported. If I received development points in my feedback, they guided me in the right way to take this on board and to use it to my advantage to do better next time.
I had to balance myself between ongoing projects, daily tasks, presentations, intern work and intern workshops - so very busy! This is something I prefer as it made my time here all the more rewarding.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility early on - I took great pride in this as I felt as though my teams thought me capable and it created an atmosphere of trust.
I feel much more confident leaving the internship not only on a professional level, but also as a person. It has taught me much about myself and how I work!
The Company
There was always a buzz around the office and the sense of teamwork was incredible.
It was very well organised - HCM were brilliant in overseeing everything and we had GSAM champions who invested much time in the interns.
They invested a great amount - I came into the internship studying a languages degree and with limited financial knowledge - this was never an issue for me and I thought it an advantage as it encouraged diversity in the firm.
Sports and Social Club
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare/Dental
Very appealing - the interns came away hungry to want to know more. HCM has also invested a lot of time in recruitment and they are going out to a whole range of schools and universities to find the best talent.
The Culture
Our intern group was fantastic - they have become some of my great friends and I will definitely stay in touch with them. Throughout the internship, I also was given the opportunity to network and I have made some wonderful connections.
The City is expensive and public transport is not cheap, however there were employee fridges and you could bring in your own food.
There were great bars around the office and many of us went for after-work drinks on a Friday.
There are many affinity networks in the firm and also team activities outside of work.
