The Role
The work i was tasked to do meant I felt like a surveyor. I wasn't just filing and making tea. I was out on site visits with the team and assisting where possible. I was given independent work as well as working with the team. The workplace environment is also a fun one to be part of.
I felt very valued. I was asked my opinion on things as well as my answers and suggestions being listened to. I felt like a surveyor that was assisting the team not just an intern. My colleagues made an effort to introduce me to the surrounding teams and welcomed me with open arms.
Whenever I needed help it was always provided. I wasn’t left on my own and was usually surrounded by a team of people. Even if I hadn’t spoken to them before I felt like I was able to ask for help. My workload was managed fairly and was often asked what work I had on.
I had a very good balance of being busy but also had some time to write down what I had been doing in my log book as well as taking notes to help me for the future at University. I found I always had stuff to be getting on with but didn't have so much work that I would be getting lost with.
I didn't have a huge amount of responsibilities however the work I produced was used to assist the Surveyors. I would for example draft up a report in my own words and sort out the template so the surveyors could fine tune it. I was trusted to get the work done and went on a basic site visit on my own to then report back.
Now i have learnt how to professional present myself to people in industry. I have also learnt how the knowledge we will learn at university will assist in the day to day life of a Surveyor. In addition to this I have learnt what we wont really be needing but has enabled me to visualise the theory we learn.
The Company
Very chilled out. It was relaxing and funny. I felt like I made friends as well as colleagues i can learn from and help build a career with in the future. It was a nice balance between work and fun. I felt like I was looking forward to spending time with them.
It was very well organised. There was a great program we were part of. We worked with the other interns on a presentation as well as managing that on our own, our teams were giving us work which meant we had the responsibility to manage our own diaries but also be part of a set up program.
We were constantly being developed. There were weekly lectures where we learnt presentation skills and what the future of the property industry is focusing on. We were part of an ongoing training program. We could also ask / have many different people to report back to if we needed some extra help.

I can come back to do some more work experience with the firm. I was also told the process on how to apply to their industry year as well as given some advice on what they look for and how to best be in a position to help get that.
The Culture
There were events / people going out all the time. I was often asked to go with and felt like I was part of the team. There are all different types of events and some that I still don't know about. There is something for everybody. You also get to go out with different teams which helps with networking.
The cost of drinks is fairly high as its central london but you have to take that into consideration when deciding to work there. If you budget to spend x amount per week on drinks then its not a problem. It would never stop you from going out and socialising.
Theres always people around in the city. Ranging from young professionals to high up individuals. It is fairly easy to socialise with anyone and everyone around the area. It doesn't matter whether you go out for lunch or drinks after work there is always a good atmosphere which is difficult to beat.
I was only there for a month so didn't have enough time to try everything but I know theres loads of different sporting events and charity events to get involved with. The list is endless. Im also sure if you had an idea for an event then it could get set up and running.
