The Role
Overall, I felt that the experience I had as an intern at BP was brilliant. I learnt so much and felt welcome by everyone that was working there. Anyone would be willing to have a coffee or answer any questions I had, as well as help me with my work. The work I was given added real value and I was able to have access to software I wouldn't have thought an intern would be able to use.
There is no 'hierarchy' feel to the business. I sat next to my managers and felt that I could ask them any questions I had. I was not made to feel less valuable than anyone else and was thanked for my work.
I felt that I had support from everyone around the business.
There were times where I was less busy, however I did not mind this as it allowed me to go online and do python/excel tutorials and learn more about the business/energy industry.
We were given a good amount of responsibility - I did not feel pressured at any point but knew that the work I was doing added value and was purposeful.
I believe that the knowledge I have gained through learning python and extending my skills on excel will benefit me in the future.
The Company
I felt that the general atmosphere was great and there is never a quiet moment in the office. I felt I could ask questions to anyone. Everyone was friendly, and it was not frowned upon to take 5 minutes out to have a coffee and chat to get to know someone.
Very well organised. We had many sessions within our first few weeks which involved training - the excel training was excellent - and having talks with senior people around the business. We has an idea of our projects before we started and our managers informed of us of our work within our first week. However, desk wise I was moved around quite a lot, and felt that they were unprepared from that perspective.
Initially in our first few weeks, we had a lot of training which I felt was very beneficial. There was always talks/training/networking sessions set up for us on a weekly basis. The Talent and Learning application we had access to also allowed us to train in our spare time and learn a lot.

Felt as though the future prospects for future employment are good. Our managers included a range of ages, some of them quite young which was positive for us to see. BP IST seem to really like to hire interns/graduates. Many of the employees had come into BP from the graduate scheme.
The Culture
As interns, we socialised outside of work/after work quite regularly. We were allocated a buddy in the year above us (1st year of the graduate scheme). My buddy introduced me to other grads, and took me out for coffee once a week to update him on how I was finding everything.
It was quite expensive...but then again it is London so that was to be expected anyway. It would be the same for any internship in London. There are places in London where the prices are lower - there are many Spoons dotted around! The internship pays well enough to cover expenses and have money left to save/spend on nights out.
Great atmosphere after work in Canary Wharf. Everyone seemed to enjoy going out for a few drinks -especially on a Thursday night! I did not personally go to any clubs but I have no doubt there would be some in the area. However there are many bars around - the choice is not limited.
Although I personally didn't get as involved as I would've liked, there were definitely activities outside of work to get involved with - for example, many of the interns joined in on 5-a-side football matches, there were running sessions, classes at the gym down the road. There are also Business Resource Groups that we could also get involved with.
