The Role
Working at PwC was a delight for me. I always had a challenge every day which forced me to push barriers and learn through that. I was also able to visit client sites and go to a variety of different offices in the UK. This along with the interesting work made it an enjoyable experience.
Coming into the internship I was unsure how I would be treated by the colleagues as an intern. My worries were instantly gone as when I came in I was treated exactly like a colleague would be. Everyone in the office treated me with respect and I felt part of the team.
Coming in everyone has a buddy and a career coach. Both along with the other team members provided great support every step of the way for me. Everytime I faced a challenge, it was met by good explanation and support to ensure I knew exactly what I had to do in my task.
Coming in to the internship, I was unsure how much work I would have. I ended up having different tasks to deal with daily and had something to focus my mind on everyday. There were times when the workload was little but if you asked around you can easily find work somewhere.
The responsibility given to me was as expected. I did not receive a heavy load of it, but when given a task. It was my responsibility to make sure the work was done to a high standard and was done correctly. This means double checking every piece of work that I did.
The internship was at the end of my second year. Going into third year studying Financial Mathematics. I genuinely believe that in the 6 weeks I developed a great skill set as I worked like I would if I was employed at the company. The training received was minimal as you learnt on the job which I feel is the better way to do it.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very friendly. From as soon as you walk in you can realise that it does not have that full "bullish" corporate feel. It is a lot more relaxed which gives you more incentive to work. There is a overall great vibe to work and relax in.
The work was set up quite well. The buddy system really helps out as they can relate more to what your skill level is as you develop work skills. Mainly for most days you will be finding yourself asking around for work from people. This is mainly based on how the individual interacts with the team.
The firm invest a lot of time in developing and training into an intern because they believe that they have a good chance of working there after graduation. This is done by the colleagues giving good feedback and support to you. Everything that is available to the colleagues is available to you.

As mentioned beforehand, the company look to hire you if you perform well in the internship. This internship can also open many doors to work in a similar sector or a similar financial company. The graduate scheme is very well set out here and it would be even better to move on from the intern scheme to the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Coming in with a couple of other interns led us to have a good bond with one another. We planned regular lunches / dinners. We also planned escape rooms and other team building events. There is also regular football with the office team which is good for team bonding skills .
Reading is quite expensive to live in terms of rent. However it is definitely for a great price considering that you are based in such a good location. Socialising here is very cheap, most things are quite reasonably priced. Being only a 25 min train ride from central London it is very cheap in this sense.
The nightlife in Reading is quite lively. There are a couple of clubs based in the city centre. Seeing as it was not during uni term, it was quite quiet compared to uni season. However it was still really good and the clubs were quite fun. Only downside is maybe not enough nightlife.
As I mentioned earlier, there are quite a few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. There is the office football. There are also other activities the team go on such as karate lessons etc. If fancied you can set up an event and I am sure most the team would be happy to tag along
