The Role
I enjoyed my internship with PwC to a great extent. I had a great insight into Internal Audit and was given a lot of responsibility by my team - meaning that I was never bored and felt productive at all times.
I most definitely felt valued by my colleagues - they included me in all team activities, such as the Internal Audit Team run every week; team drinks and lunches. They showed that they genuinely cared about my professional and personal development.
I was given a wide variety of support during my time at PwC. For example, colleagues arranged weekly catch ups with me in order to see how I was getting along. Furthermore, my colleagues put in their calendar to give me training on TeamMate - the Internal Audit platform.
I was indeed busy on a daily basis. For example, I was given good training on the Internal Audit platform, meaning that I had access to all of the systems, meaning I could do the same work as my colleague. They explained the work to me in detail, thus, helping me to complete the work in a timely manner.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement, in the sense that my team trusted me on the testing that I was doing. I was able to complete various tasks and even led a client meeting - massively helping me to increase my confidence.
The skills I developed during this internship, most definitely assisted my university studies, but I also learnt several life skills in practise. For example, presenting, working in a team and working in a corporate environment and the expectations that follow in this environment.
The Company
The general atmosphere was extremely welcoming and friendly. I never felt excluded from the team and they showed genuine interest in my time at PwC for 6 weeks.
The internship programme was very well organised, especially the induction. However, it would have been nice to have events during the 6 weeks in order for my to get to know other interns because I didn't meet many interns along the way. But my team were very organised in terms of the work allocated to me.
The company invested a significant amount of time in me. For example, a training induction in Winsor for 3 days and the training that my team gave me in order to have a understanding of the several platforms used at PwC.
Future prospects within the firm is very appealing - my ultimate goal is having a professional qualification and PwC give great training in a professional qualification.
The Culture
No there wasn't much of a social scene. I was on a different level compared to most of the other interns, meaning that I didn't have much communication with the others.
I live in London so I had free accomodation, but travel was extremely expensive, especially getting the train and tube every day.
I didn't really go out much after work.
Not really.
