The Role
The work was really interesting and allowed me to work on real jobs and get a feel for what auditing is. By working on client sites it has allowed me to gain lots of experience of not only doing the audit work but also talking and engaging with the clients.
Everyone at PwC Newcastle is really friendly and helpful, they were always ready to answer any questions that I had and always made sure that I understood not only what I was doing but also why I was doing it in the bigger audit picture. They have made me feel really valued.
When I joined PwC I was given a buddy and a career coach which was really helpful as they were always contactable if I needed any help during my internship. At the start of the internship I had a meeting with my career coach during which he helped me set out my career goals.
Every day during my internship I was busy doing lots of different things for different clients that I was working on. As with all jobs some days are busier than others depending on which audit client I was working on and where in the audit process the engagement team were up to.
I was given a decent amount of responsibility during my internship as I was given lots of tasks to handle and do by myself but there was always help available if and when I needed it. Furthermore whenever I was asked to do a task that I'd not done before it was always well explained to me so that I could do it effectively.
Through this internship I greatly developed my communication and team work skills as although the individual jobs are normally done by one person the whole audit is worked on by a team which allows collaboration and working together. I have also been able to grow my excel and computer skills as well as learning how to use PwC's audit system Aura
The Company
As I worked mainly on client sites during my internship I wasn't in the office much but when I was the Newcastle office had a really nice atmosphere as everyone seemed to know each other and due to the open desk seating I was able to sit with different people a lot.
Overall the internship was set up very well as I had a 3 day residential training course at the start to teach us the basics of what we needed to know which was really helpful as I had never done any audit work before. Also as I was on a wide variety of clients it allowed me to get a lot of experience.
In the first week of the internship there was a 3 day residential training course where PwC employees taught us the basics of auditing and assurance. During these 3 days I was able to meet all the other interns from across the country from my intake so it was a good chance to network and meet new people

If I were to get offered a graduate job as a result of the internship it would be a really good opportunity to permanently work in a Big 4 firm. Also it would allow me to have a less stressful final year at university as I would already have a graduate job lined up.
The Culture
Often on a Friday a lot of the office would go out for lunch which was a really nice social opportunity, as well as this at the end of both my first and last weeks on the internship welcome/leaving drinks were organised as a great way to either meet people from the office of say bye.
As I lived at home with my parents during the internship the cost of living is low and when I worked on site away from the office I was able to claim expenses back which was really helpful. Also Newcastle is a really nice and affordable place.
The Newcastle nightlife is really fun and there is lots to do and many places to go out and have fun no matter what you want to do.
Outside of work there was 2 after work drinks events organised for people starting and leaving the firm, however there was often also opportunities to go for drinks after work with other people that work at the firm on a Friday.
