The Role
I enjoyed my internship thoroughly. The highlight was definitely the first three days spent in Windsor where we had initial training and got to meet the other interns from across the UK. Further, I found everyone back at the Edinburgh office to be very friendly and eager to help when I had any questions.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. With the big work load that they had it seems that they really appreciated having me on the team and were vocal about this. Furthermore, I found that I bonded well with the team which made for a great work environment.
I was given a lot of guidance by everyone on the two teams I worked with. For this reason, I found that I learnt far more than I expected to coming into the internship. Whilst the tasks were tricky at times, I found that the coaching given to me was what enabled me to complete these.
I found that not a moment went by where I didn't have work to do. This meant that I was never bored and always kept busy with a variety of tasks. I was not given to much work, however, which meant that I was not required to do any overtime during my internship.
In my point of view, I was given an appropriate amount of responsibility given my role. I was given tasking activities to do that were essential to the team, and was responsible for areas of certain units such as completion. I did not expect this level of responsibility before my internship.
Whilst the skills I have learnt are very transferable and will be useful with regards to my future career, they might not be that useful with regards to my degree. However, I have learnt to be more organised and manage my time a lot better which is most definitely a life skill.
The Company
The office had a very good atmosphere! Everyone was very friendly and our seniors in the office ensured that we had fun. For example, we had the opportunity to go to Choir of Man, an Edinburgh Fringe show which was great and allowed us to bond with other people in the office.
I feel that the internship as a whole was very well organised as I always had something to do! Moreover, everything that we had to do was made clear to us a while in advance so that we did not feel lost at any point. Could not have been better organised.
It is evident that PwC care a lot about their interns as I felt that they invested a huge amount into our training and development. From the first three days in Windsor where we were looked after very well, to the end of the internship, there were loads of opportunities.

A future job with PwC is certainly very appealing. They seem to be excellent employers who care a lot about the wellbeing and happiness of their staff. Further, everyone in the office is very helpful and kind which makes for an excellent work environment, something which is key when searching for a job.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene. As interns we found that we bonded well with each other as we were given the opportunity to in Windsor. Further, there were events held in the office which we were invited to and made us feel all the more welcome. and office sports!
Edinburgh is quite an expensive city when compared with other areas in the north of the country and thus living costs were quite expensive though not unaffordable! This meant that you may reconsider getting dinner after work or lunch during your break though it was not a big set back.
I would have no way of knowing how the nightlife was in my area as this is not something I did during my internship. However, I can only imagine that it would be good given that Edinburgh is a big city and a capital, though perhaps expensive would be my guess.
There were plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. This ranged from sports, such as netball and hockey, to going to watch Choir of Man, an Edinburgh Fringe show with other members of the office. This certainly made the experience far more enjoyable and was a great benefit!
