    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my time working at PwC. There are two main points that stand out for me. One is the people, both the people that work at PwC (grads and above) and the other interns, highlighting an effective recruitment process. I formed a great friendship with all the other interns which made our time at PwC more enjoyable, along with really approachable friendly grads happy to help us out whenever. The people really make the place. I noticed a huge difference here as I had another internship with one of the other Big 4 which I can't say the same for. Secondly, we were fully supported throughout with a buddy or even other grads always making sure we had enough work and giving us responsibility to make our time here more enjoyable. So work/responsibility level was good considering its 'quiet season'. Overall - even though the work content wasn't the most exciting/ what i was expecting. The people and the responsibility made this an enjoyable experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern I felt valued by other staff. Because you're all in different departments and at client site etc. no one really knows your an intern so you get treated as if you work there which is good and means you get a reasonable amount of responsibility which has aided my skills and what i can takeaway from this internship. Everyone is really friendly. Being allowed to lead client meetings on client site was a highlight for the giving me responsibility and making me feel valued. The team i was with wanted me to do well/make the most out of my experience.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My buddy was my main source of support - Georgia Smith. She was my first point of contact for any concerns or queries I had. She was really approachable and made me feel comfortable to discuss anything and gave good advice and checked i always had work to be getting on with. Managers varied depending on job but were also good.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Personally, I was quite busy. My first week in the office was a bit slow and just did online training and got used to things, but then three weeks of my time here was spent on client engagement and at their site most of the time. When i was on that engagement I was quite busy (a nice level) and felt like I had a purpose.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a lot of responsibility for an intern when i was on client site. I led meetings and completed one on my own which is something i was apprehensive to do but a small push encouraged me to do it and I feel like it really improved my skills/experience. I was also allowed to work from home one or two days proving i could get on with my work and be trusted.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt good people skills and learnt what it takes to make a good work environment. The technical and business knowledge I learnt has been useful but don't think it will assist in my studies/career. However, whole leadership and relationship skills are two things I would say i have developed a lot. And there are definitely more things i would consider now when thinking about a work place after being here experiencing a good culture at atmosphere in contrast to my previous job at another big 4.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Good. Much more chilled than i expected (although this is quiet season), but people are trusted and allowed to work from home, dress down etc. All the people are really friendly and there's a good atmosphere around the office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • In comparison to another big 4 internship this was so much better! So organised from day 1. I knew weeks in advance of starting what the agenda was. 3 days in Windsor for intro/training was so well organised and fun, great way to network with other interns and make friends. My buddy was then my next point of contact and you were told what clients you'd be working on from week one etc. Very organised and good set up.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Our 3 days in Windsor was really good - gave a good insight into the role and some of the technical stuff we'd be dealing with which meant we were more efficient with our time when in the office. From then on we had online training to complete which was fine.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • In terms of the people and environment, I would say PwC is a great place for employment and I would work well with others and the company. However, for me personally i'm not sure the type of work i'd be in is exciting enough for me.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Loved making friends with the other interns, we were lucky enough to get a really good group in our office (all areas seemed good too). This has definitely made my time more enjoyable and so give credit to the recruitment process as they clearly have a good type of person they look out for, very sociable. The office/company run office drinks etc. on occasion and for us leaving which is nice and sociable.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fine/good. Stayed with a friend and am from Edinburgh so as expected.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife is good. All us interns have had quite busy personal things going on but can imagine Thursday/Friday night drinks out would be good fun with interns/grads.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yeh. The girls were asked if they wanted to get involved with netball, which some did, and i believe there are other similar things like this.
