    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight enormously. The insight ran smoothly and catered to all with regular breaks, great catering, mixture of activities, table hosts and a social in the evening. The interns who qualified for accommodation enjoyed staying where the insight was held. Therefore, the ease of waking up to walk to the conference room made the event enjoyable in itself, as mentioned before, it all ran smoothly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued during my time at the company. The table hosts (one EY staff member seated per table) allowed you to ask all questions and their approach was to establish what was best for us interns, rather than, what is best for EY. Therefore, I felt valued, as the interns were the focus of the insight day.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The table hosts provided the most support and guidance. During our interactive activities the table hosts would help where it was needed. The EY colleagues were extremely supportive throughout, as they were open in answering queries. However, not all sectors were explained in as much detail as others. Therefore, the guidance and support is centered towards the sectors which are discussed during the presentations.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Confidence in my own abilities grew from experiencing the insight. As, it felt like a great achievement to be accepted, to then be there and be complemented for my ideas, presentation skills. I will go into second year more confident in myself than if I hadn't attended the insight. The insight had multiple activities and therefore you could assess your own strengths and weaknesses throughout the different activities. The skills I need to work on will be worked upon in the coming degree year.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured. The electronic brochure which laid out the timetable was provided well in advance of the insight. The structure accommodated for regular breaks with great food, opportunity to meet other interns and staff. The talks varied. from a panel to energetic speakers. The insight allowed us to visit the EY office which was important, to one, change the scenery and to meet staff from each sector and ask questions.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was positive. Everyone was happy to be there and eager to get to know each other. The recruitment team were welcoming. The atmosphere from the venue, to the EY office to the social was all upbeat and there was never a dull moment. The insight was centered on the interns and to help the interns make the most of the experience, therefore the atmosphere was accommodating, positive, honest and relaxed.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I don't believe this was the aim of the two day insight spring internship. The personal training and development would happen organically, identifying yourself where your strengths and weaknesses lie within each task they provide. There was no assessment nor one on one coaching. The two day internship was more for you to find out if EY was for you.

    2/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The activities centered around understanding what a full time role within the company would be like. However, you can not truly know from a two day event.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The panel, speakers and recruitment staff lived up to the positive and friendly company culture they marketed. Which provides relief that what is presented is true. However, a two day event does not allow you to understand completely a companies culture.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The opportunity to ask your questions to current employees in each sector at the EY office was valuable, but you had to fight to ask your question and there was no time to ask follow up questions. Therefore it was a valuable opportunity but limited. Not all the sectors (specifically sectors within sectors) were presented in the insight day. Further research was required. Which was essentially the premise of the spring internship, it provided an insight into EY and your future career path but more research is required.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I qualified for accommodation. The accommodation was fantastic. EY provided the accommodation. The train journey to and from my hometown to London was also provided.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was a speed-networking session in the EY office. Interns were separated into groups of 10 and visited different podiums with employees from different sectors of EY. This opportunity encouraged you to ask questions and find out the answers you were most interested in. However ,the groups of 10 were too large and the employees were generous with their answers and therefore, the speed element to the networking resulted in many questions unasked and unanswered.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Throughout the internship you could talk to EY employees, during the activities and on breaks. The social event in the evening was fun, and was in a different part of London and so was a good change of scenery.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • EY has an abundance of opportunities, from volunteering to football matches to joining the women's network. I found this very interesting.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I thoroughly recommend this insight.
