The Role
Best internship ever. Interns are treated really well. I'm based in London and the UK headquarters are in Nottingham, so I get a first class train + 4 star hotel + dinner paid for whenever I go to Nottingham, which is every week. People are super friendly and supportive; they genuinely want you so succeed and so you don't feel scared about bothering people to ask them super simple stuff.
I genuinely didn't expect to be this close to my colleagues. Everyone wants each other to succeed and there is no 'quota' on how many people can get a grad offer after the internship. Before our final presentation, my colleagues just helped each other out by attending one another's 'test runs' and giving feedback. We are also really savage and fun around each other and they are people who will look out for you when you get drunk on a Tuesday night.
Absolutely fantastic. My mentor (project supervisor) is the best. He set up daily half-hour meetings to catch up with me on my project and weekly meetings to check my development and gather feedback. He also makes sure I feel comfortable at work by telling a lot of jokes and always answers my questions (even though they might be stupid questions).
When Cap One says we work 9-5, we really work 9-5 unlike many other companies who work their interns 12 hours a day. There was ONE time when I worked until 6pm because I wanted to get that particular piece of work done that day, and my mentor immediately got concerned because it was either he gave me too much work or I was struggling or being inefficient. The work culture there is fantastic. I would give 11 stars if I could.
I totally owned my thing. My mentor was there to guide me on next steps at the beginning of my internship, but then he slowly pushed me to take more ownership. Instead of asking "What should I do next?", he encouraged me to say "I think I would like to do this next, and I would need this information. Who can I talk to about this?" It really changed the way I do my work because I now know how to not solely depend on him and leverage people from other departments for my analysis.
The management style really makes me take ownership and responsibility of more things. Also, I did a lot of programming in SQL and R and learnt a great deal about statistics during my internship, which I think will be very useful in the future. Definitely looking forward to coming back to Cap One.
The Company
There was just a lot of fun; everyone was really friendly and supportive. People also tend to talk a lot during coffee breaks, and the interns like to play table football after lunch (yes, we have table football and pool and ping pong table in the office) so we are all quite relaxed.
Very well organised. First few weeks consisted of a lot of training and introduction to the company, which was really good because there were also group activities which allowed the interns to get along better. Later on when everyone got busier, the number of trainings went down to accommodate for that.
I would say that they invested a lot of time and effort in me; my entire analysis, which I did in 2 months, could have easily been done within a week by an experienced analyst, without the need for senior members to spend hours and hours coaching and mentoring them.

I will definitely want to return to Capital One after I graduate. The progression is clear and fair (at least I feel this way about it now, hearing from other employees), and Capital One seems to care about its employees a great deal. It is also very humane in dealing with its customers, so that's a plus point.
The Culture
Yes, we are very close and often go out together. There is a rooftop bar in the London office, so we always get drinks on the rooftop every Friday, then sometimes we will head out for dinner after that. We even had a few house parties amongst ourselves! Fun times.
It's London, so everything is expensive, rent is sky high, and you better pre-drink at home before you go to the bar. The good thing is, Cap One pays us enough to live in London and socialise, just don't live an extravagant lifestyle and you will be fine, it's London after all.
The London office is in Shoreditch, so we are surrounded by pubs and clubs (not to mention that our London office has a rooftop bar). A pint after work is very normal for us, especially on Friday nights (sometimes even Thursday nights!) It is a bit pricey but the pubs are quite good generally.
Cap One does a lot of charity work, in summer 2019 they organised a Five Peaks Challenge to raise money for children which interns and grads could join as well. You also only work 9-5 and have the weekends all to yourself, so of course there were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
