The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Capital One, the work was really interesting and you had complete ownership of your project which made it feel more important to you. Plus, the staff at Capital One are really friendly and supportive which made the intern experience much more enjoyable too, as I felt very welcome in my team.
My manager was really supportive throughout my internship and seemed genuinely interested in my project and how it was progressing so I felt very valued. My team were very welcoming and supportive of me throughout the internship so I felt included and a real part of the team, and I felt like the work I was doing was important to the team and the business.
I had weekly catch ups with my manager and team meetings twice a week, so my manager always knew how my project was progressing and could provide guidance and support whenever I needed it. Furthermore, my mentor was always really supportive too if I had any smaller issues to wanted to check the way I was going about a particular piece of work.
I was busy every day, but as you take ownership of your individual project you would be as busy as you wanted to be. I wanted to do my project thoroughly so spent a lot of time going through it all, and it fitted perfectly into the internship time scale. However there was always enough time for a table football break.
I was given a lot of responsibility at Capital One during my internship as I was given a project on something that is really important to the business and would influence business decisions moving forward. This made the project more exciting and showed me that they valued my skills and opinion.
My work at Capital One develops on the skills I utilise in my degree, despite the fact that the subject matters are so different. I think the analytical and logical skills will help me in my final year of Uni, and my future career. We had very thorough training that helped a lot during the internship but will definitely benefit me moving forward too, such as our full day presentation skills training.
The Company
Capital One had a really great work culture, everyone is really friendly and gets on very well. There are frequent after work events to help the teams mingle, or the interns and Grads within the business to network, so you get to know everyone very easily. My team were really welcoming too, inviting me on the frequent tea breaks so you always feel involved.
The internship was really well organised, and they are still looking to improve and take our feedback on board, we had timetables for the first week so everyone knew where they had to be and when, and in later weeks we knew what to expect, and who to go to if we had any problems or concerns.
Capital One really invest a lot of time into the interns, from the training they offer us, or the projects they give us so we have the opportunity to learn a lot and perform well while we are here. We had performance reviews at the middle and end of our internships, and training throughout.

There are really good opportunities for future employment with Capital One. They invest a lot of time in the interns for our training and developments, and this is because they want us to come back for the Graduate scheme after we have finished with University. The opportunities for Graduates are excellent, as you can rotate throughout the business to learn about all areas, giving big opportunities for growth.
The Culture
There were frequent after work events for different area's of the business, as well as intern/grad networking events and a summer festival for the entire company. As well as this, the interns went out for meals and drinks together once or twice a week.
The nightlife was really good, whether you were an intern in London or Nottingham you had the opportunity to visit the other office and both cities have a great selection of pubs and bars. I have been to many of the bars in Nottingham with work throughout my internship, for after work drinks or particular networking events.
The graduate community at Capital One is really active, during my internship a large number of people did the 5 peaks Challenge in the Lake District, in order to raise money for mental health charities. As well as this there are netball and basketball teams, and frequent charity fundraising events to get involved with.
