The Role
Enjoyed it loads - learnt a ton of new stuff (way more relevant and interesting than uni) and everyone was super friendly and supportive throughout. Got to work in a team with the other interns on a fun project, and I also had my own personal project that involved reaching out to a lot of higher-ups which really helped build a network
Very valued - I feel my project has added real value to the business and after presenting it everyone has seemed to find it interesting and useful. We also regularly have stuff organised after work, drinks, meals, fun days, etc
All the time, everyone on my team was really supportive whenever I needed anything explained or needed help with my code.
Some days did feel like I had a bit too much work for an intern, due to having multiple projects on the go as well as being new. The workload could get pretty intense, but I'm still very proud of what I delivered at the end
A good amount, took a lot of ownership over our own projects, and totally allowed to debate (respectfully) with managers/mentors over what direction to take the project and how to approach it
Loads and loads of real world skills, especially with AWS. Capital One also paid for the training and exam for an AWS certification, which will be really useful when looking for jobs in the future. You learn a ton of stuff here that you would never be told at uni, largely regarding infrastructure and deployment, but also just about what its like to work in a real software company
The Company
It's still an office, so you do have to be sensible, but it's also pretty laid back, good games room (pool, table tennis, table football etc) and music room to hang out in on breaks
Very well, the internship programme here feels very well established and well run.
Workshops on presentation skills, office productivity, etc. Also encouraged to take AWS courses, which cap1 pays for
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Very, it's a really great place to work, and the pay is also highly competitive!
The Culture
Frequently going out four drinks or going out for meals / to clubs on weekends
Lived in nottingham, so all fairly cheap - booked a flat pretty last minute for £105 per week
Fun days, festivals, hikes, etc
