    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Enterprise. The realities of the job are set prior to starting so as long as you are aware of the long hours and fully embrace the process it is very enjoyable. I worked for a great team who were all supportive and encouraging. The opportunity to excel in the company and gain a promotion is clear and you are given lots of responsibility from the outset.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Working for an Enterprise branch up to 12 hours a day you are bound to get very close to your team. In my branch there were 7 of us and we became very close like a family. We all supported each other through good and bad times and all of us got along very well. I certainly felt valued and appreciated from start to finish and hard work gets rewarded and acknowledged.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support given is amazing. No question is stupid and the staff are quick to help you out if there is anything you are struggling with. There are 60 day and 3 month reviews while in the company which ensures you have continuous opportunities to ask questions or deal with queries. I never felt that I couldn’t ask for help or that my supervisors were too important to approach.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • One thing that makes the hours actually manageable is that the time goes super fast. There is always something to do whether it is meeting customers, doing admin or learning new areas of the business. There were hardly any quiet periods. Day to day there was always something to do but also always time for lunch.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the beginning you are given a lot of responsibility. Depending on how comfortable you feel they will up the responsibility slowly to make sure you can deal with it. They are keen to show you all areas of the business and get you learning as much as possible.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training I have received helped develop my understanding of customer service and sales. The internship definitely makes you more able to manage your time as well as realise how much you can get done in a day. Doing work at university will be much easier.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Our branch was a fun and friendly atmosphere. All employees go out of their way to make customers feel comfortable which definitely means that the branch has a positive vibe. Everyone gets along so that also meant no awkwardness of tension in the office. We are all able to enjoy the job and laugh and joke too.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This was the first year summer interns received only 1 day training instead of a week like year placement students. I didn’t think this impacted my ability to do the job but I think the content prioritised in the training could have been readjusted to make sure we were given more knowledge of crucial in branch information instead of a focus on customer service. However, the overall process of recruitment and training was well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • My branch put a lot of effort into making me aware of the opportunity to develop further up in the company. I received regular reassurance that I could go far in the company and that I was a hard worker. The 60 day review was especially useful for tracking my progress and areas for improvement.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future prospects are very appealing. Unlike other companies where the opportunities for promotion are small or the process to get there is long, at Enterprise you are encouraged to seek promotion. There is a lot of emphasis on getting your management qualification and progressing quickly to challenge yourself. Not many companies can see an intern become something like a branch manager with 5 years of under.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was definitely a young and fun atmosphere at the branch. The staff all come from university and everyone has similar interests. When doing statement reviews we would have dinner together so there was definitely a sense of getting along as colleagues and friends.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living near to my branch the travelling was only 15 minutes for me so in terms of cost of commuting it was small. Tonbridge is full of different options for living and socialising ranging from expensive to cheap.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Tonbridge isn’t the best place for nightlife but surrounding areas provide opportunities to go out.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I got to take part in a charity day for Enterprise which was good fun and enabled me to find out about a charity and their impact on peoples lives. This charity day was attended my other interns from surrounding areas which gave me the opportunity to meet other employees which was great. We all went for a drink after which was very nice after working hard at the charity day.
