The Role
A few weeks in once you started getting more work the internship got a lot more enjoyable. Would probably be better if there was some initial stuff to do planned for those first few weeks
Feel like i actually made a contribution to the projects i worked on
Given a lot of support by managers and supervisors as well as others in the office. Always happy to give advice and feedback and lots of help especially when dealing with something new
Once I was a few weeks in I basically always had something to do thanks to getting access to some general work that the team worked on whenever they had free time
A good amount of what I did was directly for a client and this gave a feeling of responsibility.
While the software I was largely using was more specific to this area of work and isnt something relevant for use in uni some of the skills i picked up working in google scripts will likely benefit me when i go back to working with other coding langauges
The Company
Office had a really great atmosphere. Really felt like you could approach anyone if you knew they had experience in the area you needed help with. Extremely friendly bunch of people
There wasnt initially much for us to do and therefore it took a few weeks before we started getting work as the teams we were put with started to use us more
Had number of different training workshops on various bits of software. Probably got the most personal development through my work with google scripts but that was more of a time investment with being allowed enough time to get to grips with things
Seems they hire a lot of people and allow movement between different areas of work within reason
The Culture
Got to know the other interns very well and some of the colleagues quite well. Quite a few work organised events which was a decent social scene but organised our own events outside of this
Belfast is a relatively cheap city to live and work in
Belfast nightlife is okay. Decent selection of pubs and clubs
There were a few opportunities for this though not many
