The Role
Overall, I enjoyed my internship and found the area of work extremely interesting. I was given an interesting project and got some valuable conclusions from my work. I was made to feel settled and welcome after moving to a different place. I also managed to learn a lot and develop my skills.
I was made to feel very welcome and valued. However, my project was not a piece of work that anyone was depending on so I was not valued from a work point of view. But all the team couldn't have been more welcoming and supportive in the situation. After showing my work to others they made me feel valued.
My manager and project colleague were extremely supportive with me. Whenever I had questions or didn't understand something they would explain it well. Whenever I had a concern or question they always had time for me and would drop what they were doing to provide some support. In all areas outside my work my manager was very supportive.
Some days I was very busy, balancing meetings, project work, side project work and internship events. Some days I was just working on my project and didn't have as much but managed to keep myself busy. And very occasionally I had points where I didn't have much to do and was waiting on data or resources for me to keep going.
I was given several pieces of important work and was responsible for the outcomes and conclusions of this project. However, my project was not directly related to a project or work that the team was doing so nobody was depending on me for the work I was doing. I did have the responsibility of learning concepts and providing good work.
I developed a lot of teamwork, communication and organisational skills. I will take these back to my final year of my degree and also into my career. Learning to communicate technical knowledge in an efficient way was a key skill I learned. My internship was not that related to my degree so there wasn't a huge amount of skills to take back.
The Company
Everyone in my office was very nice and always up for going for a coffee or lunch. People worked hard but had a laugh and the atmosphere was very friendly. There were no arguments and any disputes were solved in a friendly way with no conflict. Overall it was a very nice place to work.
Overall the internship was well organised. We were supported if we had questions and told the structure of assessment etc. However, I would have liked more exposure to the rest of the company in the first few weeks to learn about overall operations and about where my function sat in that.

Working here in the future is very appealing as the organisation has a very welcoming attitude towards interns and graduates. the area of work is very interesting and the company as a whole is very interesting. It is a very nice working atmosphere with great benefits inside and outside the workplace.
The Culture
There were lots of events organised for interns and graduates from the start to finish. This included networking events, helping with younger students visiting, monthly drinks and sports events. A summer charity ball was organised for interns and graduates which was a good night and great way to meet people.
The cost of living was very high (understandable being in greater London) and the accommodation we stayed in was expensive for the quality of it. We still managed to socialise and have a good time due to being paid competitively but it was expensive overall. Travel costs were not too expensive at all.
