The Role
Summer internship that I did with BP was amazing. This experience provided to me an opportunity to learn more about the oil & gas industry and especially company itself. Activities that I was involved in gave me a chance to deepen my knowledge acquired throughout my academic experience and learn many things that I did not know before. Moreover, there were many different extra-curricular activities such as social events, volunteering and technical festivals that I could sign up to. This allowed me to develop not only technical skills but also soft, transferable skills. Therefore, I can conclude that I enjoyed my internship with BP very much!
One of the core values of the company is "One Team". When I just started the internship I was surprised how worm and welcome it was. Early careers team did really good job to make this experience enjoyable. When I was introduced to the team and Line Manager they all were very nice. Throughout the internship they all were kind to me provided a lot of support and help. Therefore, it gave me a feeling that colleagues valued me and cared about my opinion.
I was lucky enough to have such a supportive supervisor who was always there for me when I had difficulties with doing my tasks. He always tried to guide me and when I had questions he would answer straight away. So, I did not have any problems with asking questions when I was stuck. My Line Manager was always displaying his interest in development and was always keen in listening to my progress. In conclusion, they were very supportive and kind to me.
Objectives that were set by my Line Manager and Supervisor at the beginning of the internship kept me busy throughout the whole internship. When I was at work I always had something to do. However, when I finished my task for the day earlier I could some extra-curricular activities. One of the examples is the poster for the TechnoFest event were I was presenting the work that I was doing at internship.
Considering the fact that the project I was working on is very big, I had important responsibilities. But at the same time, as I am not a senior engineer they were very careful in assigning tasks for me. I would say that it was a good balance and I am happy with how much responsibility I was given.
I have no doubts that skills and knowledge gained as a result of this internship will be of great importance in my further studies. This experience helped me to understand some of the things better and clarify what I want to do in future. Moreover, this gave me a chance to make my mind up about the modules that I want to choose.
The Company
Atmosphere in the office was very friendly and professional. All of the employees were responsible and took their job seriously. However, they were very kind and relaxed because they know what they are doing and their approach to tackle the challenge was very well organised. It was really nice working in this environment. I would say it was good balance.
The internship program was very well organised. From the start I was given a clear agenda and what to expect from the internship. Every week there were skype call with early career advisor in order to get an update on the internship and raise any possible concerns. All I can say is that it was good.
There were a number of opportunities to develop some of the skills. One of the examples is the development of presentation skills. At the beginning there was a presentation skills workshop where experienced trainer provided interns a chance to improve their presentation skills. It was really nice experience with important feedback.

I want to work for the company and after the internship I decided that this company is right for me. So I can conclude that future employment prospects within the organisation is very appealing to me. This internship allowed me to clarify few things and decide what I want to do for the rest of my life.
The Culture
As was mentioned earlier people are friendly and very keen to socialise. All the interns were kind and nice. It was pleasure to get to know them and spent some time together. There were quite a few social events which were great opportunities to have fun know other interns better.
Internship was London based but the office itself was outside London. Cost of living wasn't really bad and cost of socialising in the area was reasonable. I would say that the area was good with easy access to Central London and many opportunities to socialise. There are many places to go around the area.
The area I worked in was good for Nightlife. There plenty of pubs and if you wanted to go to a night club you could easily travel to one. The pubs are really good and I enjoyed spending time there with my friends. There few pub crawls and night outs with other interns which was very fun
There were enough activities to be involved in outside of work. One of the examples is an opportunity to participate in a STEM event where children from local school came to visit organisation to learn more about the company and industry. Another example is community day where all the interns had opportunity to visit school and help with gardening, moving furniture, painting, etc.
