The Role
- 7 Stars - I enjoyed getting to know my employer and I felt very supported by my team, other employees, and the HR - I learned more about banking than I have during 3y of uni which I feel like is an achievement itself - My biggest personal issue was the fact that I did not feel like I was a good fit for my role and that frustrated me
- 9 Stars - My colleagues always made me feel valued - They were polite, professional, and I felt welcomed in the team - They made sure that I knew when they were happy with my work and gave me feedback - I would say that people at GS are one of the best parts of the firm
- 9 Stars - I felt like I received a lot of support from my team members. They were willing to make time for me and support me - Especially my supervisor my great - My manager was not awfully involved in the work I did and therefore I cannot speak about his contribution that much. However, he was always willing to make time for me if I wanted to talk etc.
- 6 Stars - The days varied a lot so it is difficult to say how busy I was in general during this internship - There were period when I had tight deadlines and lots of work - There were also periods when I had really nothing to do - This is partially because the work I did was project-based
- 6 Stars - I received lots of responsibility with the projects I worked on - I also assumed a fair amount of responsibility on the day-to-day tasks I worked on - In general, the full-time employees seemed to trust me - However, since my assignments were limited in terms of scope, my team members didn't have to worry too much about the kind of mistakes I might make
- 6 Stars - I learned about a very specific area of finance and subjects related to that area - I also learned a lot about banking procedures and how a bank operates. This is the kind of knowledge you can only acquire by working in the industry - However, my finance skills were not fully utilized in this internship
The Company
- 8 Stars - The atmosphere was good in general - Some teams are very busy so people are stressed and that may affect the atmosphere - However, I really liked the office and the atmosphere in general and GS has put a lot of money into decorating the office and making it a nice place to work
- 9 Stars - Compared to my previous job experiences, GS is extremely organized - There are protocols for everything and they are actually followed - There are really no "surprises" in the hiring process and you know exactly what is going to happen during your internship - The projects I worked on were not as well organized but this is partially because the bank seems to have a very dynamic approach to their work
- 9 Stars - GS provided me different development opportunities such as courses at the GS university, training sessions within the team, training sessions with other teams, and lectures with senior management - GS networks also offered more practical training sessions - There was lots of support from GS and they actually want to help their employees to develop
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare/Dental
- 8 Stars - This internship was part of the GS pipeline program so full-time offers were extended to interns - GS was very, very serious about keeping the interns in the firm - However, switching teams/departments or office locations was discouraged - I would encourage all the prospective interns to think about their role preference long and hard before applying
The Culture
- 8 Stars - There were many interns working at GS which made it easy to find people to hang out with, to have lunch with etc. - GS also supported the interns by arranging events where they could socialize together - Social scene among full-time employees seemed to depend on the team and varied quite a bit
- 10 Stars - As Western European living in Warsaw - it is very, very cheap here - It's difficult to say how high the price level actually is since I converted all the sums into euros - However, I would say that compared to London, Paris, Brussels etc. (other big capitals) Warsaw if extremely affordable
- 8 Stars - I suppose the nightlife is OK but since I am more "cocktails and supper" kind of a person, I wouldn't know - The GS office was located very near the city center where all the clubs, bars etc. are - There are opportunities to party if you are into that sort of thing
- 10 Stars - There are clubs for women, LGBT people, multicultural people etc. You name it. Lots of opportunities to get involved in different networks. It is also warmly encouraged - GS also has a program for people who are interested in volunteering (compulsory for interns) - You can also get involved in hiring from your campus etc. as a student
