The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at PwC. Above all, the people are really friendly and inclusive. You are given support right from the start and always feel like you can go to your co-workers with questions. The work is varied and as an intern you are given experience on multiple different projects.
You always get the feeling that the work you are doing is valued, and that you are contributing. You are given exposure right from the start, as well as independence when carrying out tasks. The company has a great feedback system in place so it's easy to find out how your colleagues thought you did when working on projects.
Management are helpful and approachable. Throughout your employment you will have a career coach (usually a manager) who is there to help you and ensure you get the most out of your time with PwC. Whilst working on projects managers spend time going through things with you, and you always feel like you can go to them for guidance.
The workload varies massively depending on what project you are working on. Some days you will find that you have a lot to do, and you have to plan your time well to ensure that you get everything done, but some days you will have much less to do. Work typically varies depending on what stage a project is at- if the project is close to a deadline, you can expect to much busier and to work some late nights.
You are given a lot of responsibility on each project. You will be given tasks to complete by yourself, and it is up to you manage your time effectively to get them done. Most of the tasks that you are given have significant impact on each project that you are working on.
You will gain a lot of technical accounting experience, business and industry experience as well as experience with Excel. Skills like teamwork and industry knowledge will be very useful in whatever job ole you go into in the future, and having a good understanding of Excel is also useful for most job roles.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office is quiet and people tend to work individually. People are really friendly and always willing to have conversations with you, but the general dynamic is that people work on their own. Working on client site is a different dynamic as you are with a small team and the atmosphere is more collaborative.
The internship was very well organised. The programme begins with a well structured training course where you will meet all other interns starting at the same time across the country. Once you have hads your office inductions you are immediately put onto projects. The Resourcing team is very good at making sure you are always on a project.
The company invests a lot in training and assisting your development. You are given an intense training course at the start to learn the basics, then constant opportunities for development whilst working on projects. The whole internship is a learning experience and you feel that PwC goes above and beyond to assist your development.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Future employment prospects are very appealing, the company seems to have a good progression schedule for employees, and the working culture is good. Above all the people that work at the company are very friendly and it's easy to feel like part of a family when working on projects with teams.
The Culture
Varies depending on your intake, but the people that are on the internship usually are up for socialising outside of work or at lunch times. The training is good because its a chance to meet other interns from different offices who are also up for meeting up outside of work.
