The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed this internship. It provided a real insight into what I was already seriously considering as a future career and provided me an opportunity to gain experience of working on real clients where I would have a material effect on the work of my colleagues.
I felt incredibly valued. The EY staff gave me ample opportunity to contribute towards real work being done on the client engagement and also made sure to emphasise the level of trust they had in the work I could produce.
While I did not experience much beyond the small client engagement I worked on, the Seniors and Manager I was working with provided me with plenty of feedback and support on any work I submitted and showed a genuine consideration for my improvement.
The amount of work I had varied throughout the 6 weeks. Similar to a full audit process I had periods where my work was kept to a strict deadline and other periods where I was given more time to ensure that I was not rushed.
I was given plenty of individual and team responsibility during my internship. I was allowed to both produce official documents as part of the audit process but even further was allowed to lead engagement with the particular client, leading the questions and research of their internal process.
While this internship does not directly relate to my degree, the additional skills I further developed such as planning and time management skills as well as developing abilities with software such as excel will be massively helpful in my final year of my degree.
The Company
The office runs on a hot desk policy and so there was constant movement and interaction. I got to know many of the other interns as well as many of the full time EY staff and really enjoyed my time there including some socialising outside of working hours.
I personally found the internship to run virtually perfectly. From being introduced to the other interns in my office through to joining my client team and progressing my work in difficulty across the 6 weeks the entire process felt very well structured and thought out.
The EY staff made a large effort to guarantee my development, from constantly checking to ensure I was being sufficiently challenged to ensuring I met people from all levels of the organisation up to partner, it felt that at every stage people were making sure I was getting the most out of the experience.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I have recently been delighted to be offered a grad job with EY and am already seriously considering taking the employment offer as my first choice post university.
The Culture
EY organised multiple networking events throughout the 6 weeks to socialise with both other interns and staff within the company. There were also multiple opportunities to organise other social events among the interns independently.
I lived outside London and commuted to work each day, the travel and socialising was expensive being based in central London however I think the level of experience more than justified the cost.
There were multiple opportunities being constantly advertised to ensure that should people want to get involved in the other aspects of EY during the 6 weeks that was easily possible.
