The Role
The people make PwC - everyone was really nice and approachable. Unfortunately I had some issues with access to PwC online systems and this was not sorted out until nearer the end of my placement. This was pretty frustrating, so definitely had a negative impact on my overall experience.
I was given responsibility from day 1 and made to feel part of the team. As interns we were included in socials and office events. It was really nice to have such a great group of other interns too - it made the experience much more enjoyable!
Within individual engagement teams I received a lot of support and advice in relation to client work. However, I had trouble contacting resourcing to sort out some booking issues and found that there was not much support to have these issues resolved. I was confused about exactly how to go about fixing this, so found it somewhat stressful.
On an average day I was fairly busy, but it was usually not overwhelming and there was always a lot of support from the other interns where needed.
I felt that we were given a fair amount of responsibility from day 1, as we were given similar tasks to those which new graduates would be given on a day to day basis. The work was sometimes a bit challenging, but there were usually people available to provide support and advice.
I think that the skills and attitudes I developed will be really beneficial to my future studies.
The Company
It was a pleasant, relatively relaxed atmosphere that was enjoyable to work in.
Whilst I felt that the first week was really organised and structured, there was a lot of time where I was not sure who to contact about what I was supposed to be doing.
The firm really does it's best to invest in interns, and provides lots of useful training and chances to meet other members of the firm and build supports for yourself within the firm.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I think PwC is a great firm to work for, however I feel that it is not quite the right route for me at this time. It is definitely a firm that I would consider returning to later on.
The Culture
My fellow interns were really nice and we organised several social events. It was great to have such a nice, supportive group working alongside you. The other employees were also really friendly, and made sure to include us in social events.
I was lucky that I had friends and family in Edinburgh, so was able to live here relatively cheaply. That being said, the Festival was on throughout August, so it was quite expensive to socialise!
Edinburgh nightlife is pretty fun!
We managed to join in with a weekly netball game - it was lots of fun and a great chance to meet people outside your departments.
