The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed achieving a better understanding of how the Valuation department operates on a daily basis, as well as the fundamental aspects of this important department. Meeting people from all sorts of backgrounds across all the different departments was fascinating and a true reflection of the diverse working environment which has been created at the company.
Whether it was being asked to join meetings, always offering to help out if I was struggling on something, along with constantly giving me work to do, my colleagues most certainly made me feel as if I was an integral part of the department. I thoroughly enjoyed working with them and helping out wherever I could.
I was given a great level of support from my supervisors. If one of my colleagues in the department was ever busy with something, there would always be someone who was willing to support me and guide me in the right direction. This was a true reflection of the fantastic working environment around me.
Whether it was meeting with people from all different departments, or being taken out on the road to look at properties in the likes of Wimbledon, New Malden, or even just being at my desk and working on different sorts of things, whether it was Microsoft Excel work or filling out forms, I was always busy and learning on a daily basis.
Whilst I was kept busy and always had work to do, I would like to have been given a bit more responsibility in regards to the work which I was given. The work which I did was incredibly important for my personal learning, but it felt as if it was a bit too similar each time and wasn't work which had much of an effect on the company itself.
My experience at CBRE gave me a whole wide range of skills which I will take forward with me in the future. In particular, a key lesson for me is the importance of working in a team and building relationships. Gaining an insight into the perspectives of all different people helped me realise how the power of conversation can not be understated.
The Company
A very warm environment to work in. It was clear that people weren't just work colleagues, but also friends. This is key to a successful company as it enables people to enjoy the work which they do on a daily basis. I felt very comfortable.
The level of information which they provided us with beforehand, along with the way that they organised all into different departments and organised different workshops showed that it was a very well organised internship. Having an opening day event was incredibly important as it allowed the interns to feel more at ease before embarking on the internship.
Through the organisation of different workshops, whether it was the presentation skills or learning how to pitch efficiently, the company invested in us to a large extent. Helping us learn about the key skills required to be a success in our careers was incredibly valuable.
The prospect of working at CBRE is incredibly appealing and an opportunity which many would be lucky to have. Going through the different stages from the internship programme to the graduate scheme and subsequently potentially earning a job at CBRE is an incredible achievement and one that most certainly appeals to me.
The Culture
Yes, everyone warmed to each other immediately and there was a real sense of friendship amongst the interns. Meeting people of my age from multiple cities across the country with a range of different backgrounds was an invaluable experience which I most certainly will take with me as I progress in my career.

Playing for the CBRE cricket team, along with heading off to the pub after work with my colleagues was a clear indication of grasping the opportunities presented to get more involved and network. These were fantastic ways to meet new people and again to show the importance of the power of conversation.
