Product Managment and Developement Intern Review

This Internship was amazing, there was never a dull moment and my managers and supervisors always set me tasks and goals which are both challenging yet to my ability which really allowed me to develop myself alongside my work. I made some great friends during my time at Enterprise alongside completing some impactful work.

I was apprehensive about my internship within a department that I had no previous experience in. I worried that questions that I had would be deemed as obvious or stupid by my more experience colleges. This was far from the truth. I found that enterprise promotes an environment that promotes curiosity among its workers. My team were so easy to talk to and my manager made sure that I felt like I was a part of their closely-knit family.

My manager made sure I didn’t just have the right training, but that I was going to be trained effectively. During I spent some time in a rental branch, Heathrow. She took the time out of her schedule to train me and check up on me whilst in the branch. Throughout my time here she has also engaged me in activities assist in my personal development.

The line of work I was in meant that I had to be responsive to situations within the business. Some days it would be hectic with a major issue that needed all of our attention. Other days it would be quieter which allowed me to work independently on my own projects and self-set tasks. This contrasted to a nicely balanced internship over the 7 weeks.

It’s scary how much Enterprise trusted me. just for a 7-week internship, by the end i was overlooking the launch and pilot of new technology within the UK and Europe. This meant that I was joining meetings with the different IT teams and communicating with foreign branches and correspondents on a day to day basis.

The skills and knowledge I have learnt from this internship have been life changing. More than anything it’s been a massive confidence boost, taking on large responsibilities and being trusted by. Walking away from his experience I have engaged in a multitude of different situations over my internship, all which have tested and challenged the way I think and act and has made me adaptable.

There was a great atmosphere. One thing that surprised me was that there wasn’t any hierarchy when it came to socialising. It was very common for the VPs and senior managers to engage with the interns and vice versa, it just made for a very friendly atmosphere. Everyone is treated equal.

I received the internship through TargetJobs Undergraduate of the Year award. Enterprise sponsors the Management award. Being a finalist, they offered myself and a few other finalists an internship for the summer and I wasn’t disappointed. They made sure that we would work apart of a department that we are interested in and that our skills can grow. In my case, it did take a bit longer than usual to set up my placement but it was well worth the wait.

Enterprise, invested a lot into our training. We had two group workshops with HR, Onboarding and Diversity Training which allowed us to understand in a greater depth the corporate culture of Enterprise. As for my personal training and development, my colleges and manager made sure I knew the basics of all operations and rental before I get thrown into the deep end, this was really reassuring and it made my time at Enterprise so much more enjoyable and comfortable.

Being honest, I wasn’t thinking of a future career at Enterprise this time last year, I just saw them as a company that rents cars with the cheesy adverts. However, my head has been fully turned. There is so much room for growth and opportunity at Enterprise. Everyone in my team have had multiple promotions from different teams to get to where they are today. This sounds perfect for me, because i always like to be doing something and i can get bored easily.

The other interns and I would regularly go out to the pub after work on a Fridays which was great in the summer. Most of the times the managers also tagged along. There was never a sense of segregation between us and the managers. Why I rated a 6 would be solely due to the time restrictions of a summer internship. Most interns are here on a year placement so its hard knowing that you must leave earlier.

Pretty decent, there are lots of pubs around the HQ however most people went to The Crown in Egham. It’s only a short walk away and its near Egham train station so transport is pretty easy if you need to get the train back for whatever reason. If were being technical the price of a pint would vary but would be £4 on average.

Sadly, Egham doesn’t have a night life. Its near the Royal Holloway University so there are some great bars and student pubs however for clubbing nightlife it’s pretty much non-existent. There are some clubs in the surrounding area like Windsor and Guilford, but more of less we usually just went to the pub.

Enterprise has many different committees that hold numerous events such as the charity committee which plan numerous volunteering activities and the welfare committee who plan events to improve your welfare. Also due to work culture that’s within their HQ there are always people planning events like Sports Days and BBQs.
