The Role
There is a really diverse and international workforce. All members of my team came from a different country. There was a steep learning curve regarding the finance and technical knowledge acquired. The provision of training from experienced experts was of great help. There is a flexible career path, as you can showcase your skills and prove that you can work on projects you can add value to. Finally, free food, snacks and drinks at the pantry throughout the whole day.
I felt welcomed from day 1 till the last day. Everyone in the team and the company have tried to make us feel like full-time employees. I got given real responsibility from day 1 to prove myself that I can add value to the team.
My mentor was really good in guiding me and giving me advice on how to go forward. Her help was invaluable and her constructive feedback throughout the internship had allowed me to focus on some development points. The more senior management was also encouraging and gave us inspiring and guiding speeches.
The work-life balance is great. The work hours range from 8AM to 6PM. I was not required to work during the weekends and it was highly recommended that we should all leave at 6PM. The daily work depends on how you set up your day, so it is quite flexible.
At the beginning of the internship, we spent 4 weeks to get to know more about Bloomberg, the daily workflow, as well as hone our finance and technical knowledge. After, we were given one or more individual projects to work on, which were not created just for the sake of interns. These projects are projects that any Full-time employee would work on, hence the potential to add value to the team was up to us!
As an Engineer, I had aimed to improve my technical skills and more specifically my Python skills. This is something I had worked on when undertaking my individual project, hence could potentially assist me in my degree. However, more complex technical projects could have been more helpful for my self-development.
The Company
I had a couple of internship experiences before. The environment at Bloomberg is nothing to compare to other companies. The flat structure of the company does have a real impact in creating a friendly, approachable environment. Most, if not all, people are willing to help each other. The atmosphere here is something other companies should envy.
The HR has done an incredible job from the day we have received the internship offer (i.e. 10 months prior to the beginning of the internship) until the last of the internship. Everything was well-planned from way ahead, they have brought in experienced and fun people for training, the social events were amazing. Every single stakeholder has made this experience amazing!
The company invests in you when you show an interest in a specific area, or when you prove that your skill set can add value to the team. As interns, they try to train us and provide us with as much knowledge as possible during the 10 weeks. There's not much else they could have done, but they do indeed show their interest in investing in us if we become full-time employees.

The fact that the career path is flexible, i.e. you can literally choose how you progress within the team, and across different teams, is appealing. You can develop yourself as you want. Also, the compensation is competitive and the ability to travel to other regional offices also looks appealing to me.
The Culture
This internship was flooded with social events, with interns and full-time employees from all around the world. The social events, such as the Summer Picnic, were a great way of meeting new, interesting people, while having fun too. They were well-organised and provided free drinks, food, and loads of fun was guaranteed!
I had my own place to stay so I am not aware of the cost of living in the area I worked in. The social venues (pubs, bars) in the area are reasonably priced, especially when compared to the compensation we had received.
The Nightlife in the area I work is lacking. THis is more of a corporate/professional area of London which is why most places around the office close relatively early.
London is the place to be to get involved with any kind of activity you want. Bloomberg organizes volunteering events with many charities and organisations and encourages its employees to get involved. In addition, there many sports team within the company that organize weekly games outside the work.
