The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement as it provided me with an opportunity to learn a lot of new stuff. I got some experience into working in an office based environment and the team of people I worked with were very nice. the health and safety culture in the company is also an added bonus.
I felt very valued as I was trusted to write reports which typically interns do not get the chance to do. I had a lot of responsibility in my day to day tasks which also helped me learn new things. my colleagues treated me like an equal in terms of workload.
From day 1, I had sort of a buddy system were there we always at least 2 people who I could go to if I need anything. Generally, the whole team was very helpful and friendly. they provided guidance and took out time to explain things clearly to aid my understanding.
Generally I would say I was always working on at least one project through out my time there. Depending on the kind of work available i could be working on about 4 projects which is great because you get to mix things up from time to time and avoid having a repetitive routine. I still had enough time to take lunch breaks and coffee breaks during the day.
A significant amount. I felt very valued as I was trusted to write reports which typically interns do not get the chance to do. I had a lot of responsibility in my day to day tasks which also helped me learn new things. It was also good to know that my work was being checked
In my degree studies, I'm not quite sure yet. this is just because what I study is completely different from my role here. But outside of my degree study I believe i have gained a lot of transferrable skills! learnt how to use new softwares which will be useful, further developed my time management skills.
The Company
The general atmosphere was professional but casual. it definitely had a good balance as there was a break out room where people could have a break, or have meetings, or even work if they wanted to. so yeah it was lively and a generally great atmosphere in the office daily.
Very well organised. I could tell a lot of time and planning had gone into this. We were always kept busy, everything we needed to start was made available to us on arrival. communication was constant before and during the work placement which is really good. organisation was seamless I would say.
There were loads of training materials made available to interns which was great. The guidance provided by colleagues also assisted in personal development and training. generally, it was a very worthwhile experience in terms of growth and development. The first few things were all about training and induction which was also very well organised and useful.
Very appealing. definitely considering another role with the organisation as it has overall been a great experience and I believe that I share the same core values with the organisations which is really nice. the organisations also shows that they care very much about their employees in general. its a stress free work environment.
The Culture
Yes, although it was quite a small number of interns. there was definitely a strong sense of socialisation. everyone was super friendly and helpful. went out to lunch on several occasions along with colleagues. there were several formal/ informal after work events organised which was really good and great fun.
didnt live in the immediate area so can not really comment on that. Cost for socialising is average for central London I guess. although, there are quite a lot of laces with very nice deals which could be taken advantage of. there's also loads of discounts for people who work in the area.
can not comment on this because I live in a different area.
There were quite a few activities advertised around the organisation, but none that I could go to as it they mostly occurred after my internship or before. Loads of different opportunities to get involved in different things. Staff members where encouraged to get involved in these activities across the organisation.
